ok…so for those of you that know kush you know that she now is about 7 weeks old. well…we never let her upstairs. we have gated off the upstairs as we only sleep upstairs and shower upstairs so its really pointless. well…the dog is crated at night upstairs and thats her best friend so tonight we forgot to put up the gate and here she comes! so i put her back down put up the gate grab a glasso water and as im coming back up the steps i look up and shes at the top of the steps! she climbed the gate! she wants to be with her sister pooch!

my question is…we only have one litter box. and its obviously downstairs. what im worried about is her going potty upstairs even if we leave the gate down. now i know that ill eventually have to buy another litter box but this month some stuff came up and we are litterally penny for penny strapped. she hasnt had any accidents at all that ive noticed and im pretty sure she cant be that good at hiding poos and pees or id be smelling them even if the dog was getting to them to try and save her hide. (not that id actually do anything to her…just an expression of speech lol). do you think she would be ok? or should i try and rig it better to keep her downstairs until i can get anothee litter box? me and the hubby have pretty hectic schedules right now and cleaning up poos and pees would just be too much of a headache that i dont know if i can muster up the enegy to do ontop of everyhing else on my plate. because when i say me and the hubby…i mean me.

It’s a good idea to have a couple of litter boxes available for that “just in case” moment. I have 2/1 for ea kit on main level & one in basement/where they usually don’t visit for the same reason!

I agree that you either need to keep the kitten downstairs somehow (good luck with that!), or provide some sort of litter box upstairs – especially for a kitten that age.

Do you have an old roasting pan or baking dish (sterilize in the dishwasher later), or perhaps even a cardboard box that you can cut down to size and line with a plastic bag or something? Maybe stick a couple of shoe boxes together?

Anything that is maybe 9″ x 12″ or 14″ and about 4″ high should do.

LOL – Too bad you don’t live close by – I have several old litterboxes that our big boys have outgrown! 🙂

ohh good idea! she seemed to lose interest after about half an hour after she tried to scratch her way onto our bed and we put her back down. so she made her way back downstairs to sleep. but i think ill find some sort of box and put a garbage bag to line it until i can get another litter box.

on a happy note animal friends finally called us back and said theyll call us in two months to schedule our appointment to have all her shots and spay done. all for $30 because she was a feral litter baby…even though we are keeping her. but we only kept her because the shelter was going to put the litter down. and honestly she was a foster that turned into an epic fail. lol. im a hprrible foster momma. thats why my husband wont let me foster dogs…he knows i wouldnt let them go. so now i have my pit bull furbaby and my kitty fur baby and im done for now. at least until we arent renters and we own our own home and have a big yard and lots of house space. we are cramped as is with two pets ( well 4 if you count fish) and a 16 month old. -sigh- i wish i was a millionaire.

I honestly think she will be fine with the box downstairs. Kittens are smart! To be safe you can have a second upstairs and maybe eventually you can get rid of it- maybe when she outgrows the kitten size boxes and is ready for a big girl larger box. She sounds cute, loving your dog!
