We got a couple kittens at 5 weeks and 7 weeks. The younger one – Cosmo wasnt litter trained and he would poop outside the litter box. With constant encouragement and handling (putting him in the box ever so often) he got the hang of it and went 4 days without any accidents. They were cordoned off in the bathroom as part of acclamatizing them to the house and getting them used to us. They would be allowed to come out to play but I would put them in there for the night. Since they no longer hide and are more comfortable around us I let them out all day yesterday with the bathroom door open that still contains their litter boxes and their food bowls (they are not next to each other and are at other ends of the bathroom). They did well so I didnt shut them up for the night and left them out. This am I woke up to find he had pooped in two different spots and then again this am in the kitchen. He knows the way to the bathroom because he went back all day yday to eat and to pee and poop.
Any ideas how to make sure he knows only to poop in the litter box? I am so nervous about him relieving himself anywhere and everywhere and not being able to find it.

I’ve posted a few links for you to look over. There are several things to consider when cats refuse to use their boxes. They could have a medical condition so the first thing to do is to take them to the vet to rule that out. Some are finicky about texture and highly scented litters too. But give these links a read, and let us know how you and the kittens are doing.
