    Hi!

I recently rescued an orphaned kitten. We estimate that now she is around 3/4 weeks of age and is soon to be weaned.

I am soon to be going back to university and so our situation will change. Until the kitten is fully weaned and able to pee/poop by herself, my mom will be taking her into work with her (luckily she works at a vets). However, when she is fully weaned and so on, we were considering placing a large dog crate of ours in my bedroom (we have a German shepherd so the crate is huge 😆 ). Inside we will place toys, a constant supply of food and a litter tray as well as blankets. I was wondering whether it would be a good idea to keep her in this for the few hours that I am at uni which can range from 2 to 4 hours.

I just worry that leaving her alone in an open room rather than a crate, she’d find all types of spaces to get into and wires to chew!
Any help will be greatly appreciated! 😀

Hi Charlotte. I got my kitten at 6 weeks old, she is now 9 and a half weeks old and spends a lot of the day to herself. Both my bf and I work days and we didn’t want to leave her running free in the unit because she has discovered cords are fun to chew lol. We put her in the spare room. There is a mattress on the floor with lots of blankets, one litter tray, her food and water and her toys. Your Kitty won’t like it at first but we started out doing it for an hour or so while we were home then built up. Bella doesn’t mind as long as we give her lots of love and attention when we let her out. She still cries when we put her in there but she settles down after maybe 10 mins. I’ve never used a crate but as long as Kitty has everything it needs and gets lots of love when you get home, I think she’ll be OK. Hope this helps ????
