Wednesday night (two days ago) i bought a container of the powered KMR, well I opened it, did not mix any of it up, its been sealed since then with the lid but not the sealing under the lid…I just read the back, it says that “opened powder must be refrigerated for up to 3 months”

since this has not been refrigerated for two days, and has technically been opened, is it safe for me to give to my two kittens who are no more than a week old. when i found them the vet said that they were 3-5 days old, still have the cord on them no opened eyes, all that scary stuff.

Honestly I don’t really have any experience with KMR but if they were my Kitty’s I would not give it to them. Just to be on the safe side. I’d hate for them to get sick from it. Just my opinion though, I’m sure there are others on here who know more than me. Good luck with your little ones;)

If I dont give it to them, I dont know what to feed them throughout the night, its midnight here and they are ready to eat, and their last serving was from a can the vet gave me….Im lost with what to do..

Hmmmm… Then if other were me I would give it to them until you can get something else. I don’t know of anything else to feed ones so young and they need to eat. Hopefully some other TDK’ers will chime in!

I believe it would be safe, that’s a very short time really to be “open” and “out”. Unless you live in a very warm and humid place, it should be ok to use. Manufacturers tend to be overzealous (and yet oddly enough other times not!) I would use it. Good luck with the new babies!

My KMR container is a little bit old and it doesn’t say to refrigerate the open can. When I was using it, my kitten did just fine and it was never refrigerated. I always threw away any formula that was mixed with liquid and not eaten though.

Unless it is over 100 degrees in your house, having a can of opened KMR powder unrefrigerated for a couple of days is OK. Give the can a sniff before you mix a batch up. If is smells like old oil or old milk then it is not good and you should NOT use it. If is still smells fine that you are free to feed it to your kitties.

You could mix up a batch – if its off, it wont mix very well, and you will probably be able to smell it as well.

Good. I hope?? I expanded my business – rather prematurely, but the excellent opportunity was there, so I had to do it. I thought I knew what I did for a living, but I had no idea there could be so much politics and junk involved with being part of a co-op practice. *sigh* Such is life, its how we learn 🙂

I haven’t even been able to lurk, so I have no idea what has been happening over here 🙁 send me a mail – I’ve missed you guys!
