I just got 3 kittens from my uncle’s farm, that he thought were about 3 weeks old. He had already started giving them goat’s milk mixed in with dry kitten food, but when I got them to my house they all started having diarrhea from it. One of their butt holes has prolapsed and he has the worst diarrhea, but he is still very playful and does not seem to mind that his butt hole is out. I stopped giving them the same formula my uncle was and are just giving them kitten milk and water until their diarrhea goes away. I am worried he has some kind of parasite or disease and is going to pass it on to the other 2 kittens because they always sleep together/ontop of each other and sometimes diarrhea comes out while he is asleep. What do I do??

I suggest getting them checked out by a vet. Best of luck raising these orphan kits!

The best and first thing to do is a vet visit. I just read on this site a few days ago about fresh goat’s milk isn’t good for kittens, it needs to be pasteurized first. Could be the kitten may have a bacterial infection from it. I am using canned goat’s milk from Walmart found in the baking section. It is condensed, so I add water to it…more bang for your buck. It’s great stuff for kittens and doesn’t constipate like the powdered KMR.

Yes, a vet’s visit (for all three) to check on possible parasites and his prolapse is the best idea and it’s good that you’ve stopped giving them the dry food, they are a bit young for it at three weeks, it is not good for male cats 24/7 and if you make it wet, it can grow bacteria quite quickly, if the vet thinks they’re ready for solids then wet food mixed with water is the best solution until the diarrhea is gone. Best of luck and click on the pink tag ‘diarrhea’ for previous advice on this issue.
