About 2 days ago, I found a kitten in my backyard, heard her crying. She was by herself; no mother, no littermates. We took her in, she’s about 2 weeks, and we fed her. When didn’t have much hope she would survive, we’re new mothers and don’t know much about rescuing a kitten. We took her to the vet, and she said she looked good, a little dehydrated, but they gave her a shot to help. She hadn’t pooped for us yet. They told us to give her a specific amount that was related to the formula we were using, a pre-made formula, and her weight. However, when we fed her she started wanted more and more of it. We gave it to her. She did poop a little, like a smudge, in the middle of the day. She’s now throwing up everything she’s ate, and we are really worried. It’s too late to get to a vet, and we plan to take her in the morning. Please, we’re pretty much panicking, we’re already attached to little Dove, and we just need some good news. Is there really any hope for Dove?

This is one of the best websites for handrearing orphan kittens: http://www.messybeast.com/handrear.htm

Your baby will overeat if given a chance. It’s better to feed her prescribed amounts more often than too much at one time. Keep her warm and only give her a little bit of food at a time.

Thanks, the website helped. Dove did eat, after 2 hrs, around 1 cc out of the 2 1/2 cc she should take. It took a minute, but she is now a sleep. We’re taking her to the vet tomorrow and have her checked out.

I fed her, I stimulated her little bottom to go to the bathroom, let her teethe for a little bit, but when I try to put her down, she starts crying. Any advice?

If you can fashion some sort of sling so that you can carry her around, that might make her happy. She may just want to be near her meowmy.

Lately little Dove has been chugging down her food, and continues to look for more after she’s fed. If we feed her more than the prescribed amount, she gets sick and throws up. We’ve been feeding her some pedialyte with her food, and that has improved the color of her urine, but I’m wondering if it has any adverse affects…We don’t have enough money to take her to a vet, but there is one we can call with any questions we have. I worried we might need to take her in…we would certainly try to find some money to take her, but money is tight as it is. Little Dove seems pretty much desperate for food when we feed her, and isn’t really satisfied afterwards…What can we do to fix this?

    She probably has worms.

I just found out that we are feeding her formula for a kitten 6 weeks of age, and she’s 3 weeks. That’s what’s probably causing it. I can’t believe I made a mistake like that…I hope it hasn’t hurt her little tummy…
