My 13yr accidently stepped on 7 week old kitten when coming off last step of stairs. Hubby rushed her to ER. The vet said her heart sounded good and their was no broken bones. They gave her fluid and oral meds. Got her home. She tried to crawl out hubby arms. Seeing that,I figured she be OK. She fell asleep in my arms for about an hour. I had her wrapped in towel. We made her a bed next to ours. She crawled out and peed and pooped. She had some blood in poop. About 30mins later she threw up. Anyone have this happen?

There might not have been any broken bones but there could be internal injuries or she could still just be in shock..

Keep her warm and fed if she’ll eat.. If there is internal injuries there’s not much vets can so in such a young kittens.. Make sure your 13 year old knows that this can be a common occurrence 🙁 I hope your child understands it’s not their fault and I hope they aren’t traumatized . I will send healing vibes for you little kitten..

Keep a close eye on her if the vomiting gets worse or if she becomes lethargic I would bring her back to the vet ..

Very good advice from Buttons. Kittens and cats have a bad habit of being underfoot. Why do they do this, I have no idea but I can’t even count how many times we have had “near misses” with our own kitten and adult cats. Like Buttons said, keep a close eye on her and if anything changes, she may need to go back to the vet to check for internal injuries to her organs.

Thank you so much!!! Most traumatic thing. My poor husband was bawling crying thru the whole thing. I did have a sit down with son. He’s a special need child and this cat means the works to him.

Good thing. Woke up this morning and she crawled under our bed. Turned the bedroom light on and she raised her head and looked at us. No more vomiting or any other loss fluid. Her name is Flip Flop

That is a good sign, and you did exactly the right thing in immediately rushing her to the vet. I think that you were lucky it was a child who mis-stepped, and maybe not wearing shoes, as it seems like kitty has hopefully escaped any lasting damage. I agree totally with Buttons and Kittyzee, keep a close eye on her, keep her quiet, warm, comfortable and fed, but if there is any more vomiting, blood in the litter box or she doesn’t want to eat, take her back to the vet.

Oh that’s a promising sign 🙂 yes the fact it was a child that stepped on her is probably a good thing believe it or not..

Sending those healing vibes.. And a very suitable name ..! Flip flop 😆

How scary for all of you!!! Thank goodness you rushed to ER vet! Blessings that Flip Flop stays in tip-top form after misadventure and that you are able to comfort your son and husband. Pets are so very wonderful for everyone!

    Update on Flip Flop!!!!

She ate all her food. Went into litter box and went potty. No blood!!! When my daughter went to check on her. …. she walked up her and rubbed against her leg. I think she is going to be ok. Thank you for all your responses. We were thinking we were going to have to plan her funeral.

For those who don’t take pets to ER cause of money… my husband told them flat out he couldn’t pay up front. They took care of cat regardless. They put a $30 grant towards the bill and we can come pay the $100 when we can.

Thank heaven for a happy ending on this one! She sounds like she may have lost 1 life, but has many more to go yet….What a great and understanding ER too, every pet deserves treatment, no matter what. My vet also knows me too well, and he also knows I know how to give meds, and take out stitches! I love the name Flip Flop too — that’s what my kitten Willow actually did when I gave him his worm meds, literally flip flopped because he hated the taste…lol!

Kittens are resilient. When I was a little kid my brother accidentally stepped on a new kittens head. It did some brain damage, but my mom took care of him and he lived a long life.

Smart cat too. I once saw him standing next to his buddy at a food bowl and he was jealous. So he raised his arm to smack her, but put it down as soon as she looked over. Once should went back to eating, he slowly raised his arm another time, but again got caught in the act and played it off. Finally when he was in the clear again he took his chance and claimed his territory.

To this day I’ve never seen that level of deceit in a cat.

    Update on Flip Flop!!

She is doing awesome. If you didn’t know what happen you would think she was a normal kitten. Plopping up and down the stairs with her sister. She is still a little skiddish when you come towards her. Very understandable. Eating and drinking like there is no tomorrow. Very fortunate to not have any lifelong injuries.

Kittens really can be resilient. My current baby was 4 days old when she slipped and fell about 3-4 feet as one family member tried to hand her to another. She landed on her belly, and went into a moment of “shock” for less than a minute. Then she went right back to squirming, and sucking on fingers, demanding her meal. She behaved so normally, and it was nighttime, so we didn’t take her to the clinic–if there was something wrong with her, there wouldn’t be much a vet could do for a 4 day old.

She behaved normally during her last feeding before bed, but I was sleepless all night, imagining the worst–internal bleeding, ruptured organs, brain damage, hemorrhaging. She was fine. Really was just shocked silent for about 30 seconds, if even. She’s 19 days now and as healthy as could be.

These accidents happen, but so do miracles. I’m really glad Flip Flop has bounced back to her old self. What good luck!
