I have a 6 week old kitten. She has puss in her eyes. They are not swollen. I keep wiping them with a warm wet rag, but she keeps having more puss later. What should I do?

Jaleece, can you get her to a vet’s?

You are doing the right thing by wiping her continually and cleaning her eyes, but she needs to see a vet so they can look at her. She will probably need an antibiotic and some drops or ointment for her eyes. It’s important to get her to a vet now so that she doesn’t lose her sight or her eyes altogether–I’ve seen these eye infections get bad enough that it can happen. Let us know how she is doing please!

Yes, and if your money is limited, it is important to act quickly as the vet may very well be able to resolve it with an antibiotic, and some ointment or drops. That won’t be terribly expensive, as hospitalisation at the vet’s surgery might be. Good luck to you and your wee baby.

It sounds like an upper respiratory infection. Like a cold in a human. Very common in kittens, especially since their immune systems are so immature. My Celeste had the same thing (and she’s around the same age). It resolved after a day on antibiotics. Very easy fix, but please get her a prescription!
