Hi, my 13yo cat has a bald patch on his chest. The area of skin felt really dry. Now he has ripped the dry layer of it and it is red, with some blood and looks a little swollen. What could it be? He seems fine otherwise, eating ect. Just wondering what it is?

Hi Jasmine, I don’t know what that could be on your cats chest but maybe a vet visit will help allay your worries. Sounds like his chest may need taking care of to prevent infection getting in. Got to look after our elderly cats.

Could be overlicking (usually because of stress), could be ringworm, could be a lot of things.

Need a vet to see it–you don’t want ringworm to get out of control!

Hi guys, it’s become very swollen and feels tender. I’m thinking it could be a closed abscess as he is an outdoor/indoor cat. Taking him to the vets now. Will update you guys, hoping it won’t cost a bomb at the vets though!

oh no! Maybe he got bitten by another cat? I just fostered a kitten who got bitten and had similar symptoms. The vets at the shelter did surgery on him to clean the wound and drain the absence. He was neutered at the same time. He was on pain meds and antibiotics for a few days and sported an Elizabethan collar for a week, much to his dismay. He fully recovered and went to his forever home with another kitten who he loves to cuddle and play with. He was very affectionate. He didn’t let the cone stop him from head-butting and cuddling!

not sure how much this costs because it was done by the shelter. Hopefully not too much 🙁 Has your cat been neutered? Unneutered males get into cat fights frequently.
