We think that her neighbor did it. He may have had a key to her apartment from a previous tenant. They don’t change locks between tenants these days; too costly. The set up is that there are 2 apartments upstairs and 2 down. She has an upstairs apartment. The apartment below her may have still been empty since the guy was moving out the week I was there. The other couple downstairs may have been out every time, because of the day of the week. Everything happened on Tuesdays. Since the apartments have both a front and back view, the guy next to her would have a perfect view of her comings and goings. He would have heard her leave and return.
The guy is clearly sick to do this kind of thing and had some kind of sick enjoyment for doing this. My daughter termed him as being a loner. Simba was never loud or annoying and never out of the apartment. Little Callie was only there a few days. Jasper would have been next if they had stayed.
My daughter will move into a new apartment as soon as possible, but for now she and Jasper are safe and secure with a friend. She went to her apartment with friends to pick up a few things. Since nothing has been touched or taken, it is clear that the monster is waiting for her to return with Jasper. He also, most likely, saw when the police where there.
Things will develop in the weeks to come with the owner/manager returning and my daughter’s vacating the apartment. It depends on how much people want to pursue this crime. My daughter may want to just hide being too afraid to take this case to justice. And she now feels she must protect Jasper. She brought him into her home to give him a place to live and be cared for and about. She cannot take the chance that he could be hurt. She feels badly enough that she wasn’t there to protect Simba and Callie.
Let’s pray that she finds a safe place for herself and Jasper.
