I have a litter of 5 week old kittens Im fostering, and all of a sudden, one seems paralyzed…is totally limp, only just vaguely squeaking when I move her, wont eat…but is warm and breathing…just not responsive…she was fine this morning at 6am feeding…at 11am feeding I found her in the litter box this way ๐Ÿ™ Im so devastated…

Is there any way you can get a vet to check her?

What are you feeding? I had the same thing happen to my kitten a few days ago!!

If you are feeding Hartz milk replacement, STOP! It is known to cause paralysis in kittens and can easily result in death. Wrap your kitten in a blanket or towel. Take a small syringe and get some electrolytes in her to keep her from crashing. To make the mix I used on my kitten, mix up 1 quart warm water (boiled then cooled if not filtered), 3 teaspoons sugar, 1 teaspoon salt. If she can’t swallow, put a few drops every 3-5 minutes in her cheek. Rub some honey on her gums too. Keep rubbing her and stimulating her. Repeat this for up to 3 hours. After three hours, let her rest in a box with blankets away from the other kittens. I did this and in a few hours my kitten perked up, thank god. I hope your kitten snaps out of this. Just keep the fluids in her. She can easily become dehydrated and pass away from this.

Agree with Leeny. Can you call vet/emergency vet/even a shelter where they may have a vet on call? Bring kit in to vet/emergency vet? Something? This is an emergency IMO.

Totally unrelated – I see that you changed avatar Emily (or EL, you’ll nite that most everyone here uses initials LOL). Can’t quite make out what is in pic, though. โ“

Emily is correct if your feeding hartz KRM I would stop it has a very bad track record..

If your feeding alternative KRM you could be dealing with fading kitten syndrome ๐Ÿ™ a vet can tell you for sure so as the others have said if you can get to the vet do..

Fading kitten syndrome can effect kittens under 8 weeks and no one know why really.. They can be health one minute and a hour late go down hill very fast with no explanation .. Try and keep her warm ๐Ÿ™‚

Just as general advice, and only in my opinion, avoid using Hartz ANYTHING. I put one of their flea collars on my first cat and later observed fleas strolling around his neck, as if there was no reason for them not to be there.

I took her to the vet, they tested her blood sugar, gave her some Karo syrup because they thought her sugar was low, but that wasn’t the case ๐Ÿ™ Her temperature was a little lower than normal, even with me holding her against my chest all day..even the vet said she felt nice and warm. I asked him to just let me bring her back home so she could pass on peacefully with me holding her, but he said she was most likely suffering, and the most humane thing to do was to euthanize her. Running tests and keeping her there at the vet’s office wouldve been hundreds of dollars that I just dont have. He mentioned also because she was still so young, that fading kitten syndrome was a possibility. Its been a rough day to say the least. Lots of crying. I lost it in the vets office. They gave her back to me in a little box, and I buried her next to a flowering bush in my yard. The other 4 are looking good…feeding well, playful, alert…just hoping they stay that way. Thank you all for your concern, advice, etc. ๐Ÿ™

So sorry for your loss Danielle. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ You did what you could, got advice, etc. No embarrassment whatsoever for losing it at vet’s, just shows how much you loved kitty. And for her short time here she only knew your love. Now she’s playing in the Meadow, welcomed by newest arrivals Buttons and Kes. Love to your four other furbabies, ((((hugs))) to you. Take good care.

Danielle I’m so sorry for your loss.. She is playing in the meadow now with all the other cats ..

Not even the most experienced vet can do anything about fading syndrome it comes on very quickly and even if you do everything perfectly they will still cross over ๐Ÿ™

All she knew was love she was a lucky little one!you made the right decision to let the vet help her cross over

Danielle, I’m so sorry for your loss. Don’t worry about losing it in the vets office,we’ve all been there and done that and it means you care.

I am so sorry Danielle. Your little baby only knew the best of life with you as her Meowmy. Please know how much we all care here, we have cried on each other’s shoulders and know how much it hurts. ((hugs))

Thank you so very much for all your condolences! I am so touched! I am glad to be a part of the dailykitten community. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was feeding them the Hartz KMR, and heard so much negativity about it, so I researched it as well, and I am throwing it out!!!! I hope it was not the cause of my baby’s death ๐Ÿ™ I just went and bought the PetAg KMR at our local pet supply store. Again, thank you all so much, I am so happy to have found others that love their kitties as much as I do ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m so sorry about your baby, Danielle. They leave their little pawprints on our hearts quickly, don’t they?

    Hi DCR,
Try not to second guess yourself (very hard, been there, done that) and know that we are here for you.

I think I’m going to really lose it ๐Ÿ™ There is another one dying..and the rest are not looking so good…maybe they have a virus or something? I just can’t believe how cruel life is. And at $60 apiece for euthanizing, I just cant do it ๐Ÿ™ I dont know what to do ๐Ÿ™

Danielle so sorry about the first kitten, perhaps now that you have noticed sooner emergency vet may be best at this point. Waiting it out does not seem to me like the way to go especially if this is how your first little one started. Do remember that you are doing all you can and without the mama it’s very difficult. I too am raising a baby kitten and I can’t imagine how hard it is for you to care for so many. I’m thinking of you and the babies good luck
