Why don’t we tag this with something appropriate? I want to come back to the FISH!

I have seen many times how a smile while looking someone in the eyes can change their whole body language and how a nice remark can change someone’s day. There is a deli, that I go to and a couple of years ago, one of the young men making the sandwiches was obviously having a really bad day and was full of anger. He made a remark about not being able to do anything right. I looked at him and said, “Matt, I am sorry you are having a bad day, but I love you Matt, I think you Rock!” He stopped and looked at me. I looked him in the eyes, smiled at him and told him that I think he does a great job. He smiled back and I could see the anger and tension just drain away. There it was, a day turned around. Fish! in action!

I ask a lot of questions 🙂 What’s fish? I get the concept from the posts, but I’ve never heard of it before.

Fish! is a book written about the principals learned from the Pike Place Fish Market. These guys don’t get paid much and they are handling raw fish everyday. Some people would think it is the worst job in the world, but these guys make it fun. They toss the fish to each other, joke about, invite people in on the fun. Dr. Stephen Lundin, Harry Paul and John Christensen wrote a book about it and use it as a model for how we should approach work and our lives.

Choose to make today a great day

Play: Be serious about your work without taking yourself too seriously at work

Be there: Don’t let distractions destroy the quality which is present in each moment

Find someone who needs a helping hand, a word of support, or a good ear and MAKE THEIR DAY!

We all have the capacity to choose our own attitude. No matter what happens we have the power to choose the attitude with which we face our lives. We can choose to be a positive force, even in the face of adversity or we can be a negative force and bring everyone around us down.

Today, I choose all of you and give you a virtual High Five!
