I’ve made a few posts before this one but just realised there’s actually a Introductions bit, woops!

Here’s my cat and her lovely kitten’s blog, there are some pictures and a video and my plan is to update it daily.

Don’t you just love those little pointy tails? I think it’s my favourite part of a kitten.

The point tails are adorable! Because they’re bengal/tabby they have little ring markings around their tails 🙂

I’ve been looking through some of the posts and I’ve got myself worried. All of Evie’s kittens seem to be doing fine, not much meowing, only when Evie leaves them for a break, I’d say she leaves them every 2 hours? Are they getting enough feed? Also if you look at my previous posts, I mention that I still haven’t seen any sign of them pooing, that was two days ago and they still haven’t but every now and then I see the mumma licking their genital area. Some of them have firm tummies… Are they constipated? Also Evie didn’t have her jags (I don’t even think that’s the proper word for them, I’m tired and frantic at the moment!) So could they have caught something viral and I haven’t caught on? Ahh this feeling is horrible! I was so settled and felt confident that they were all healthy and okay, but now that I’ve read some posts about kittens that have seemed well then died, I’m freaking out. Any advice or comfort would be appreciated. 🙁

Hi, Anna, I would say your kittens and their mama sound to be doing just fine. The high mortality stats are for kittens who have been abandoned by their mums or whose mums have gone — kittens with their mums usually do just fine. They are getting her antibodies in her milk, they have had her colostrum from the first feeds, they are getting fed on demand (can’t do much better than that), she is taking care of their toileting and she will keep them warm and clean and safe. You will need them all to get the proper vaccinations when the kittens are weaned and old enough and Evie will need her vaccinations when she has finished feeding them, if she hasn’t had any, but as long as they are safe at home with you and don’t go out, and don’t have contact with any other unvaccinated animals in your house, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Hello Jcat, Thank you for your response.

You’ve given me some good peace of mind, I can finally get some sleep!

I plan on getting them all vaccinated and wormed, including the mumma cat.

I have an outdoor male cat, Jaffa. I got him when he was 10 weeks old, and the owner told me he had been vaccinated but I didn’t know 100%, if you look at my other posts, I’m a teenager and when I first got Jaffa, I was very young and didn’t take to do with the ‘taking the pets to the vet’ thing, and I can’t remember my mum ever getting him vaccinated but Evie and him aren’t in much contact. He’s never been ill before, the only time was when he got in a scrap with the next door neighbors cat, about a year ago. Apart from that he’s a big healthy boy.

Well, best to keep Jaffa away from the mama and kittens, not just because he may not be vaccinated but also because if he’s not neutered, he could be a danger to the kittens. If he has been neutered, he should be fine but he should still only ever have supervised contact with the kittens, just to be on the safe side, until you are sure he would never hurt them. But I imagine, if he’s an outdoor cat, he doesn’t have contact with them anyway, so it should all be fine. I hope you can post some pix of your little ones soon 🙂

Well the only time he’s been near them was just him having a quick sniff from a distance, maybe about one meter? so he isn’t very interested at all, and because the kittens are in my bedroom closet, and he doesn’t come in my bedroom very often, it’s all okay 🙂

and I’ve not had a chance to take very many recent pictures but on the blog there’s a few of them when they were days old!
