My Harley had her first litter two weeks ago this Monday. She had 4 healthy baby kittens, two boys and two girls. The first week was a breeze and all seemed to go well. Friday we noticed that one of the girls the runt wasn’t breathing right we immediately took her to the vet who told us that she didn’t know what was wrong with the kitten and that we should let nature take its course. It was heartbreaking. We lost her a day later.

Now our other girl is crying loudly randomly for non-stop times until she tires herself out and sleeps. Momma kitty has milk and pooping her babies. I have read every forum i can think of and i am at a loss. Is it normal for her to cry loud? I know their little meows, but it sounds like pain at times, i pick her up and cuddle her and she does the same for a minute until she calms down and falls asleep. I am super worried about her and any advice would be great! Thank you

It could be that she is not getting enough milk. You could supplement her with goat’s milk found in the refrigerated milk section of the grocery or in the baking aisle in cans or powder. The cans are condensed so add water 1 to 1. Then put her back with mama and let her pee and poop her. This is about all you can do for her, because if something is wrong on the inside then there’s not much you can do. My thought is that she is still hungry, and as long as you are touching and holding all the kittens anyway, mama isn’t going to care if you help her out with this one. Sometimes mama cats just don’t have enough milk!

I’d say it’s the loss of her sister. You know what you’re doing, I didn’t know the things you said but? They were born together and one suddenly gone is felt emotionally. It’s the same with humans. If I had names I could talk to her and shed understand. All you can do is soothe her with touch and in time shell get past the loss. Human twins go through this too. We all grieve loss in our own way.
