    Cat Food...what to hunt/LOL
    LOL
    From FB
Education is key in everything related to cat nutrition. Not all dry food is bad not all can food is bad. After taking care of cats for over 25 years we do believe that nutrition plays a very important role in allowing our cats to live their 9lives to the fullest Visit A Country Cat House for more tips on nutrition and more all related to cats.

Links with food choices for kits:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Read-a-Pet-Food-Label
Taken from Country Cat House FB:
    Taurine Requirement
Cats have a special need for the amino sulfonic acid, taurine, essential for the formation of bile salts which aid in the digestion of fats and absorption of fat soluble vitamins, healthy eyes, and heart function. Cats are unable to manufacture taurine themselves because they do not have enough of the enzymes to synthesize it from the amino acids methionine and cysteine, therefore, it must be in their diet.

Nutrition … Dangers of Overfeeding your cat…..
    .
Your kitty is a little gordito or gordita (chubby)…. well we have noticed an increase in obesity in cats during the last 10 years.

It is vital that your cat has the right balance of essential vitamins, nutrients and minerals for their bodies to function properly. Cats that aren’t fed a balanced diet can have a variety of health problems, like bone malformations or poordensity due to a lack of calcium and phosphorous and heart disease due to a lack of taurine.

While you want to make sure you’re feeding your pet the right amount of food, overfeeding can cause obesity.

Here are some of the dangers of an obese cat:

    1. An obese cat is not a healthy animal
    2. They have less energy
    3. They have a hard time to get around like walking and walking up/down stairs.
    4. They have propensity to joint problems
    5. They can’t run and cats that can run are much happier and have better mental and physical health.
    6. Arthritis
    7. Diabetes
    8. Certain types of liver failure.
While many cats can be predisposed to obesity if they lead sedentary lives and consume extra calories put them at higher risk and most of the time we are reponsible for this. So let’s be aware of ther serious dangers to our kitty cats and we have a choice to help our cats win the battle against obesity.

diffuser chemical burn on cat from
    SOS/Chemical Burn from Diffuser!!
OK, folks . . . this picture is going to be a bit disturbing, but I think the word needs to get out there. This is our “office kitty,” Dewey. He knocked over a cinnamon reed diffuser (you know, those things with liquid and sticks in them to make the room smell good). He was washed up quickly, and we thought he was OK. Turns out he was NOT. Dewey has chemical burns over a good portion of his belly and hind legs from the liquid in the reed diffuser. He spent five days at the vet having his wounds debrided. They had to put him under anesthesia to do this, because it would have been too painful otherwise. This is what some of his wounds look like after he was treated at the vet — there is more on his belly and on his other leg, and this actually looks GOOD compared to what it looked like when he was taken to the vet. The burns did not show up for about a week or two, and we thought he was OK and was just “stained” from the liquid. That was not the case. Dewey will be OK, in time. BUT, what if this had been a CHILD? What if those chemicals had spilled on a child’s face or in their eyes? You wouldn’t think the “stuff” in a reed diffuser would cause such horrific burns, but obviously this one did. THIS is NOT a joke. PLEASE share this with your friends. I would HATE to have something like this happen to a child. It’s bad enough it happened to an animal. If you have children or animals, GET RID OF YOUR REED DIFFUSERS! This is not something I’m just forwarding to you, so you won’t find anything about this on Snopes (unless they contact me!). I’m signing my name, so you know this is really from me, because I don’t want folks to think this is just one of those “things” that spreads around the internet. Julie Miklas YOU DO NOT NEED TO “FRIEND” ME TO SHARE THIS PICTURE (I will not accept friend requests from strangers). I have posted this as a PUBLIC picture.

I had no idea. Poor kitty, but glad he got the attention he needs to make a full recovery. And here I thought the diffusers were a good option. The plug in ones make me nervous, as do candles, and some of the other ones don’t really last and aren’t very attractive.
*Scritches and healing vibes for office kitty.*

OMG!!! The poor kit! Those burns look beyond painful and thank G-d the kit will ultimately be okay. Thanks for sharing the info JK. Occasionally I light stick incense and I light candles, both carefully watched to ensure Dorry is kept at a safe distance. But for sure these diffusers are never coming into this place.

i used the reed diffusers when i had my cats, but always kept them out of reach or knockable level. i admit i dont really use them anymore because as much as i like them, i dont find them as often, and find other things like those air fresheners u pull the plastic up on, it look like an egg…..those things easier.

i also have some paan masala, which is actually supposed to be chewed – it’s like hard nuts and stuff

but honestly, it’s hard for me to chew, and it tastes like cack….BUT if u put a few little holes in the plastic bag within the cannister, put it out of reach, and let it go, especially in summer and near a window wow it smeels really good. so i use it as air freshener, and it lasts a good long time without getting mouldy or going bad. 🙂

I picked up those “save my pet” stickers at pet supply store for next to nothing and have it pasted to front door, I believe that fire dept. gives them out for free. I also added Dorry’s name along with other info. Hopefully this is all a “just in case” situation that never materializes, but he will respond and come out from wherever he is when his name his called, so this could be an added safety factor for firepeeps to know.

Helpful link as from feral/stray to forever:

Tips for Adopting a Stray Cat

    From article:
It is helpful to view these felines as having low self-esteem and needing a wide personal space. Because of minimal or non-existent past socialization, these felines are always on high alert. When a person or animal enters that cat’s personal space, its defensive neurons prepare to fire. In the opposite situation, if we allow the cat to enter our personal space, the defensive neurons are subdued. Over time, if those neurons do not fire, the behavior they elicit ( e.g. running away, hissing, scratching) will be eliminated. Read more/click link.
