    Help please!
There are a lot of cats around my home. We feed them all as me and my family love animals. One day a momma cat came right into my home bleeding. I thought she was sick until we notice she was having babies. She had four and well we thought all was great she fed them and did what momma cat is suppose to do. But from one moment to the next she became sick. I took her and the babies to the vet… I do need to mention we live in a small town. They stated there was nothing they could do for us, they didn’t do cats. So i was told to droo them at an animal shelter…. Our shelter is not a no kill shelter. Eventually i had to take the momma she was suffering so bad. 2 of the 4 babies are alive. But not doing well. I feed them, poop and pee them. And still nothing they wont poop. Until tonight one had a hard time going. Is there anything i can do to help the poor things. I want to make sure they survive. Im so attactched now.

How very sad that a vet says they don’t do cats. If you can get some goat’s milk, your kittens can have that or kitten milk replacer. I don’t know where you are located, and what you have access to. Cow’s milk is not appropriate food for baby kittens. Make sure you keep them warm. Place a heating pad on low wrapped in a towel in their nest. Or a hot water bottle. Or even keep them close to your skin when you are handling them as kittens cannot process food if they aren’t kept warm. I am going to post links for you to look at–it tells you how to hand raise new born kittens. We are here for you if you should need us–let us know how you and they are doing!

so my babies who we have now named Andromeda and Raptor are looking well. I still can not get them to poop but we have noticed that their sleeping area smells like pure urine and under the blankets there was poop. So I’m wondering if they are to young to go on there own? Do I still have to poop them??
they were born on July 5th that would make them bout 2 weeks old. This is the first time I’ve had to deal with something like this. I will post a pic as soon as I can.

I’m glad the two kittahs are doing better. Yes, you need to keep trying to get them poop. You can put a couple drops of olive oil or vegetable oil in their formula. This will make it easier for them to poop. Please read the link KZ provided as they have a lot of useful information.

This is from the messybeast.com link that KZ provided:
    CONSTIPATION
This is fairly common in hand reared kittens. A mother cat stimulates a kitten’s anal region frequently. A human surrogate may only stimulate it two or three times a day. Kittens should be stimulated to pass a bowel motion after every 3 feeds otherwise faeces accumulates in the rectum and colon. The longer faeces remains in the colon, the more water is reabsorbed from it and the drier and harder it becomes. This in turn makes it harder to expel the motion. I’m angry at the vet. for so dismissive of you needs. However, you should call and find a vet. who can help you for a reasonable price. Contact the shelter for advice or references on low costs assistance.

Here is a link to help you find a vet. near you that can help.
