    Well hello!

My name is Cjay, and I am the extremely proud mother of an almost 4 month old rescue kitten named Felix. I found him at a no kill cat shelter in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As soon as I walked in he meowed and meowed and meowed at me until I took him out of the kennel then he decided to claim me as his by rubbing his face on me and purring, and since then he’s been my little baby. Any advice I can get for being a first time cat owner would be much appreciated!

Hi Cjay, My name is KJ and your topic title made me basically jump out of bed to reply ASAP … ’cause I’m from Canada too, Quebec to be more specific! Don’t think that there are too many Canadian posters on “TDK”. Congrats on your new kitty, from your avatar he looks adorable, you should consider submitting his pic for the Main Page feature. I have one kitty, Dorian Gray, Esq., or Dorry, he’s my second kitty, my first, Nicky was with me for 13 years. I recall when I adopted him I had no idea what to do. My vet gave me lots of advice and a friend who had a kitty also helped. I’m not an expert, but there are many people on this site who are. Perhaps it would be easier if you have some specific questions to ask. Sorry that I could not be of more assistance, but I hope you stick around. Canadians rock! 🙂

I actually did submit a long story about how he got to the shelter he was at, how we met, and basically his life story until now lol and a nice picture of him sitting snuggled in mamas lap! I’m from Manitoba so we aren’t far lol

Hey, maybe you two can meet up sometime! Once in a while, TDKr’s get together and get to meet each other in real life!
Welcome Cjay – Felix is adorable – hope to see him on the main page soon.
Probably the best basic advice I can give is repetition and structure, then patience, patience and more patience. Most of all, have fun! Good luck!

Hey Joan and Cjay, LOL – actually from here to Winnipeg is like 1,442 miles. For comparison’s sake, from here to NJ is 404 miles, peeps go to NYC/NJ all the time for a weekend. Winnipeg is in diff time zone. Canada is a big country and KJ has basically seen little of it. Anything however is possible. At the very least we can discuss eg our Prime Minister (but why would we when there are kitties to discuss). And JK wish I’d had you on hand (and the I’Net LOL) when I adopted first kitty. “Cause I was big-time lost! As in I have this tiny tuxie who’s hiding under the radiator – what do I do now!!! The time I had an entire vet clinic ROTFL ’cause I brought the little guy in for “growths on his tummy” found when I was petting/snorgling him and got a lesson in “guys have nipples too and didn’t you know?” At least I provided entertainment. *sheesh*

Hello and welcome Canadians 🙂 KJ, 1400 miles is not far, I was able to visit Calgary 3 years ago, well, that’s far, lol 🙂 More than 5000 miles from here

Welcome to TDK Cjay, distances seem to become shorter the more we all chat here. I’m from New Zealand, just a hop and a step SW of you.
Felix is a lucky cat to have found you.

It’s amazing to see how many different places everyone is from! Felix is a fully indoor kitty, and if I ever get another cat they will be as well. It’s great that you have a disabled cat Buttons! He is beautiful. AZDebra that sounds awesome, I wish I could live somewhere warm! And Im sure you’re cats are gorgeous 😀

Hi Cjay! Seem to have just missed you again! Saw your Q on other topic postings. My Dorry is an “only” kitty and we do fine, I get him all to myself LOL! Have you had snow in ‘Peg yet? We had flurries here yesterday, thankfully it melted as it hit ground. Totally not ready for it yet!

Oh yeah, the temp right now is -12 C. We had a snowfall around Friday last week, it lasted a couple days, but since it’s now November, I have to use the command start on my car already LOL. Still waiting for the snow to stay on the ground, instead of just seeing small patches of ice here and there on the road. We usually have snow just before Halloween. Im quite happy with just Felix, lol he’s a handful as it is. Im quite surprised with how his energy has slowed down already though.. Since he won’t be 4 months old until the 27. He has little spurts here and there but would much prefer to just snuggle with me in bed.

Hi, CJ, welcome to TDK, I’m in New Zealand too but a little way south of MS, in pinot noir country. I’m sure Felix will soon have you well trained, if you have any specific questions I’m sure everyone here will try to help but otherwise, if he’s eating and playing and seems happy, then sounds to me like you’re both doing just fine. I have two girls now since I lost my big old boy cat, Jasper, I have Libs (my avatar) who was a feral kitten rescue and consequently thinks all humans are really scary (but not quite as scary as her weird little sister). Millie was a foster but she has a disability which affects her movement, so I kept her, which Libs was not very happy about, but they seem to (just about) exist in a state of truce these days.

Hi again CJ, today it’s freezing – but can’t feel too sorry for myself as you peeps get the worst of it. -3 C, windchill factor -10 C (why don’t they just tell us the windchill factor, ’cause that describes how it feels!) Icy patches on the road, damp too. Time for the winter coat *sighs*. Dorry kitty doesn’t know what he’s “missing” staying inside.

Renzo and I live in Montréal, specifically near Jean-Talon Market, in La Petite Italie (Little Italy). Renzo is a black, cat, sort of between pure black and tuxedo, with white toes, whiskers and a little triangular shirt-front. He is not far from 18 years old, so a pensioner now, and sleeps a lot, but still has his LOUD Siamese miaou (he was a stray so don’t know which parent was a meezer). Not bad today, plus 12°C, I rode my bicycle and Renzo purred in the sun.

    Bonne journée et ronrons!

Hey Iagatta, KJ here, coincidentally I live just a Métro ride away from you here in La Belle Province! My kitty is Dorian Gray Esq., or as he is commonly called Dorry. He’s a silver gray tabby gent, his pic is my avatar, and will be 4 yrs old in March. My kitty Nicky (now at the Rainbow Bridge) was a tuxie. Yes the weather was great here today, compared to getting a bit of snow last week!!! Pouring out now, good to be in. Bonjour!

Well, I live near two métro lines. It was raining here too, and lots of wind, but a bit of sun now, and I have to do a couple of quick errands on my bicycle (I have a bicycle path on my street, to the Market). Don’t worry, if there are gusts of wind, I’ll get off and walk.

Yes, Dorrie is lovely, and I guess hill stay lovely, while his photo ages…

Renzo still going strong, but obviously won’t be around forever. I love him so much; well, I guess that is why I read and sometimes post on TDK, eh?

    (eh? is hein? in French)
