He has a condition (phimosis or something) causing him to be unable to unsheathe his penis causing him to pee inside of the sheath and only dribble out urine… I just don’t know what to do. The care credit in our family is maxed it for a surgery for Oliver’s catheter, and we have nothing in savings because we got a car… And I don’t have a good support system of people. We can’t even afford to bring him in to see how much it is. Not until next payday anyways. It’s just not fair this sweet boy is having such a hard time… Has anyone had any experience with this? If not I could use some white light ): … I feel like crying….

I’m so sorry, Chaos. Sending you and Harry all the white light in the world. I wish I had some experience to help you but I don’t. These links don’t have a lot of information but they do have a little: http://www.helpmycat.com/diagnosis.php?dname=1462http://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/reproductive/c_ct_paraphimosis_phimosis

If it’s any comfort, it looks like at least Harry has the kind of phimosis (inability to protrude) that isn’t immediately dangerous. Have you thought of going the Facebook crowd-sourcing way? This thread might help: http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/topic/new-stray-kitty-please-help-scared-amp-needs-amputation

Sending many {{{{HUGS}}}} and all good thoughts to you two.

I’m so sorry Chaos. I wondered about the crowd sourcing route. There’s these types of sites (though I have no idea if legit or not.)

    Here’s an article on it:

Chaos pls let us know if any of the fund sites are likely. Sending white light but I know that doesn’t pay the vet bills! Also, I remember a friend in childhood whose mom took her to the local dental college for cleanings – the students got to practice and the bill was very low – would there maybe be a veterinary school in your area that could help, or even recommend alternatives?

Ill check the vet school at my college… I was thinking of the fund sites, but I don’t have a very strong group of people to help in my circle, and I can’t remember what the decision was for funds on here /:

(((Chaso))) We’re not allowed to directly solicit for funds here (I don’t think that’s changed), but we can certainly brainstorm ideas to help sweet Harry. I think the vet school ideas is a good one.

Chaos, do you have a PayPal account?

Gentle hugs for you Chaos and Harry. The vet school might be a really good bet, there was a member on TDK who had a kitty with very different medical issues and the vet school helped out greatly.

I do have paypal but I honestly have no idea how to use it. I will check the vet school first and see what they can do. Thanks for the suggestion guys :3 Harry’s spirits aren’t down, his only inconvenience is his claws were cut, he is having trouble getting onto the bed for cuddles. The vet that wouldn’t neuter him did reopen his sheath to let him pee better, so he is ok for now…

But the good news is they are officially adopting him to me (:

We aren’t allowed to ask for funds on this site, but you could certainly provide us with the vet’s name and address. You can ask on Facebook.

Try the vet school first and see what they say. At least you’ll know what needs to be done.

Yay for Harry being official! Hope he’s all fixed up soon.

Ok I’ll let you guys know the vet if needed, he needs an exam first before they estimate, and its possible they may be able to fix it during a neuter procedure if it seems like his condition is not more serious. They said he has scar tissue around the edge so this could be a minor surgery… I hope it is…

And I have to say, you all are truly an amazing group of people… It’s hard to find people that even care to help their own animals, and you all are so ready to help out not only yours but other people’s! It truly makes me feel good to know you guys are out there (:

If it’s not a lot of money maybe the place that gave you Harry to foster could help. You are saving them the expense of euthanizing him.

They have a limit of spending on kittens, because they don’t staff their own vets, they gave him 150 dollars max and he ended up with a bill of 171 during his vet visit. It’s sad /: if he had been with the humane society where they do have their own vets then that probably could have been an option.

Well I understand about the soliciting rules, that can be a slippery slope that goes downhill fast. I’m trying to think of an alternative that would preserve the integrity of the rules, but still allow people to help. Perhaps if other posters asked, rather than you, where the funding site was that would work. Or we could email you and ask off site. Or the mods could keep an eye on it if there was an uptick in that sort of thing and stop it before it got out of hand.

Barring that, I suppose you could sell a print version of Chaos Guide to Constipation :).

I wasn’t around for the full back-story of Harry, why wouldn’t the vet neuter him?

Haha well the Guide is my effort to contribute to society. I would neeeever solicit money, and I should be getting some aid money soon…. I just hope that the whole procedure is not arm and leg costly /:

The vet wouldn’t neuter him because his penis was swollen from him being unable to stream urine through the sheath, causing his urine to be trapped. They considered it a health risk and a complication for neutering. The skin of the sheath has scar tissue and is thick. Instead of the neuter, they reopened his sheath and drained him so the swelling was gone, but the condition will persist until surgery is preformed to either widen the hole or remove the scar tissue.

They also had about 50 other spays and neuters to do, and probably didn’t want to risk not keeping an eye on him for complications. I don’t blame them. Problems of this sort are delicate and can turn south quickly.

Well, maybe we can add each other on FB. I guess that might be a more appropriate forum to discuss how Paypal works too (since they have private messaging).

I’d be willing to help, although I am a broke student, so it won’t be that much 🙁
