Oooh, it’s looking scary in the TDK lounge – agency kitties have gone all out! Cobwebs are strung on the ceiling and there are big black spiders nested on them, eek! Oh, looking closer showed they are plastic, whew! Cobweb decorating wouldn’t be complete without kittens running around covered in the stuff. The moms are chasing after them in a futile effort to clean them up.
Last night was spent carving jack-o-lanterns – lots of fun and scary faces! Of course the responsible adults did the carving.
Chef kitties have prepared all the usual goodies, as well as yummy pumpkin flavored pastries, cakes and drinks.
There’s a costume area where you can take your pick of what you want to be. There are scary ghost and goul costumes, pretty princess costumes, fun cowboy costumes, and everything in between! I’m wearing a pair of pink bunny ears!
    Welcome!
(PS: it took me about an hour to write this because there’s a little someone who wants Aunt J’s attention!)

Livia has shown up, as a black cat. But she has two shades floating in with her, the spirits of Renzo, departed not long ago, and Nadja, who left in the last century. They are black as well, though Renzo sports a bit of white. And translucent. They are friendly, purring ghosts, but wary. Especially Nadja, killed by a car one day that she bolted out the door. Not long before Hallow’een.

Caddy is an all black cat too, and has decided she’s going as Katniss Everdeen this year, as she has proven herself to be quite the hunter ….. ‘gifts’ of headless squirrels are frequently at my back doorstep these days ….

Abby is going as a pirate wench …. she has on a long black skirt, an off the shoulder white blouse and a red corset …. she has on a big hat with a huge purple feather (think puss in boots), and a bag of treats wrapped in foil and made to look like pirate coins to share …..

    Let the party begin!!!

We’ve brought a savoury tart (sort of a quiche) incorporating potimarron squash – also known as red kuri – and leek, some cheeses, some wines and a witch’s brew. Livia, Renzo and Nadja have brought mice, but since Renzo and Nadja are wraiths, so are their prey.

I have a few potimarron squash on a sideboard, and Livia seems to sense how photogenic she is among them, but unfortunately, I don’t have a camera now.

    Evening all!

In my n’hood it is indeed a “dark and stormy night” following on a “dark and stormy day.”

Dorry can’t tell all the noir grrrl kitties apart. No matter he feels that they are privileged to have him making a pass at efurry one of them! Prepurr to be soundly rebuffed boy! πŸ˜‰

He insisted on dressing up as Super Cat! No lack of ego with that one!

His plans for me included this get-up. I think not!

Good day for sleeping all day, which I did. I too miss the ministrations of the awesomely handsome masseur Sven! And I still have my whack bonk stick should it ever be required! πŸ˜‰

Now time for some noms including latte, as I watch a “Father Brown” mystery, very good series.

Joan, I want to congratulate you on becoming a Grandaunt! The picture of you holding him says it all about how you feel—lovely.

I don’t know how I got to reading old posts but just recently on Skeptics Day there was another one of those things—abbreviations I don’t understand. If I’m not violating a rule, would someone decipher these for me?
KOTSW, MST movie, COA airbag, IMHO and “steampunk”. I think there’s more but I can’t remember right now. I only know lol, TNR and HRH.
Back last June Kandy first came on and said she needed brain surgeries b/c of an essential tremor. I was glad to see her post again this past week and hope she’ll tell more about the surgeries and prognosis. I hope it’s all positive.

On that day when Kandy first posted, I was happy to learn about some of you:

Pussigato’s career was in the Navy and has been to so many places in the world and Italy is her favorite. She has 3 kitties, Miss Moppet who is 29″ looong, LilBit and Miss Gaea.

Joan lives in the mountains and I didn’t even know New Jersey had mountains! She has MIss Leela, Comet and Mac who are strictly indoors and she cares for outdoor kitties Berta, triplets Huey, Duey & Louie and Star. And, as we all know, Joan is now a grandaunt of a beautiful baby boy.

Katsenjammer made me laugh when she seemed to have misplaced things and got all stressed out. Sounds like me. KJ, you really are an A type, actually I’d say AA. You astonish me with how much energy you put out going to the gym to work out and doing TWO spinning classes in one day–even when you’re sick!! Also very interesting to know you’re Canadian and loved working in advertising/publishing and now are your own employer as a free-lance copywriter/translator. KJ has one kitty, Dorry, king of the house whom she adopted 6 years ago after sadly losing her 12-year-old baby.

Moonshadow_NZ live in New Zealand! And, her family used to be sheep farmers! How exciting! (at least to me) Now they are city folks and have 15-year-old Moonshadow who apparently rules the roost as she is fondly referred to as Her Royal Highness.lol

I hope I haven’t stepped on anyone’s toes here. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed knowing more about each of you.

KJ, I love Dorry’s costume … Caddy and Abby will be smitten πŸ™‚

Lois, our ‘code’ is sometimes laughable! …. much of which was devised over a decade of posting here in TDK land …. and welcome, my friend!
I’m AV (AbbiglaeViolet) … my meezer named for Abby on the NCIS show, who is pasty white with jet black hair and tons of eyeliner (i.e. Siamese purrson at it’s best) … we live in Tampa Fl and I have an extraordinary sparkly tutu that I don (ex-ballerina) from time to time, that many old timers blame me for global weather mis-happs …. read more back posts for that history ! LOL

KOTSW is a drink (dirty vodka martini with tobacco and blue cheese stuffed olives) that I shared with MS (yes in NZ) and her sis KK years ago … they tried it and posed me pics of their fun … it stands for ‘Kiss of the Spider Women’ …. made up by the bar I first had one at …

COA stands for “cute overload alert’ … typically precedes pics of kits so adorable we faint πŸ™‚

IMHO stands for ‘in my humble opinion’

steampunk is a KJ reference ….

hope this helps, and I’m glad you’re part of the gang now!

    Best, AV!

Wow Dell, sounds like you were cramming for a TDK Quiz! πŸ˜‰ No sense of your stepping on toes here!

TDK is acronym laden – so KJ stands for my name here as Katzenjammer. Comes from “The Katzenjammer Kids” a way old comic strip featuring twin boys and fellow warriors in the battle against any form of authority. πŸ˜‰

“Steampunk” is a literary genre as well as a subculture used in clothing, jewellery, etc. Shares some characterisitics with Goth. But Goth is mainly a music subculture and Steampunk is mainly an Object d’ Art subculture. Style-wise I do have a bit of the Goth in me, but in a good way LOL (Laughing Out Loud.)

So now you know just about efurrything!

MS, tks for srsly creeping me out – esp that tarantula-esque kitteh. And even though I’m no arachnophobe, if I wake up screaming in the night I’ll know who to blame! πŸ˜‰

Shadz is really excited to be heading to the party, she is going to use her full name of Moonshadow and have fun leaping out of the shadows to scare cats. She has decided to wear a cape that is sprinkled with stars and she has a small broom tucked into her belt in case she wants to fly later.

Wow Livia,Abby, Caddy and Dorry look amazing.
LOL KJ, love that cat costume you don’t want. You could rock that no worries.
Dell, ask away if in doubt. AV, did a great job explaining although COA can also stand for Cuteness Overload Airbag. When we see cuteness involving a cat or kitten our COA deploys automatically and we safely fall into it accompanied by a ploooooooof sounds as the bad cushions us. The full sound is THuuuuuPloooooff. Yeah crazy, but why not, it’s TDK.
My hubby was born into dairy farming and I was a city girl and our paths crossed in an orchestra. We wed and moved on to a 5000acre, 10,000 sheep farm, with 600 cows(not milkers). We are now back into the city. Yes Shadz is often referred to as HRH, because she sometimes acts like she we should be treating her as royalty.
We had a cool night and this morning it was 9C(48F) but the day has warmed up. Daughter Meegz came round for breakfast and then we all worked together to plant out kumara(sweet potato)plants. As soon as we were finished Shadz wandered through checking our work and then curled up in a corner to sleep. I had to wait for her to wake and leave so I could water the plants in. We have trimmed our nectarine tree as it had crowded the path too much and dug up the rhubarb and I will plant out 3 swan plants – milk plants -for the Monarch butterflies. I also unearthed several raised vege plots. Taking a break now before I have to think about what to make for dinner. Expecting an even colder night tonight.

Oh Boy, AV, I’m so happy to get your post to me! So, you’re a former ballerina; my youngest granddaughter has been taking ballerina since she was 2! Of course, she wasn’t really dancing; she started out as the little bunny that runs across the stage at the beginning of The Nutcracker and she’s been in classes and performed in that ballet and many others ever since. This summer she applied to 5 different ballet schools and was accepted to 3. She chose one in or around D.C. and she and her mother lived in a B&B for a month up there. For years, the two of them have gone to Pennsylvania for 3 weeks in the summer to some ballet camp or school. She wants to become a professional ballerina and I hope she succeeds. Her teachers say she is very talented. Thank goodness she doesn’t have a physique like me and her mother. Mari was adopted from China at almost 1 year old. You would be surprised to see how tiny she was—only the size of a 4-5 month-old-baby! Her head was flat in the back from lying in a crib for so long and she had ring markings around her ankles where she was tied to a potty chair b/c I understand the caretakers put them there and tie them so they won’t get up in order to teach them to potty there and not in a diaper. But she’s now a beautiful and very smart young lady of 13. The one thing we’ve always noted about her is her long feet; even when she was tiny, the length of her feet was out of proportion to the rest of her. Of course, we’ve never kidded her about it.

I’m sure you know much more about ballet than I do, which is nothing. I haven’t thought to ask if attending that school would have any significance on her future plans to become professional. What do you think?

So you get blamed for “global warming”, huh? That’s a laugh! Well, please let me know if South Carolina will have snow (not) this winter. Yes, I’ll keep reading older posts and hopefully learn why you’ve received such a ridiculous accusation.

I don’t know how old you are and I’m not asking; I just think it’s great that you can still get into that tutu. I still weigh the same as when I was young and pretty but the main parts have shifted and aren’t in the same place anymore. LOL but not kidding! I still have some of the lovely clothes from my 20’s but can’t wear them. I must admit, though, that I’m extremely NOT in shape. I used to work out every day and was in great shape but the hip replacement and open-heart surgery have really knocked me down. Before that, when I had my knee replaced, I couldn’t run anymore but I still kept in shape. It’s been 3 months since the heart surgery and I still cannot do anything physically exerting. For instance, if my 12-pound baby, Buddy, slips out the door by me and I go get him and carry him back in, I’m completely out of breath! I asked people on the internet who’ve had heart surgery how long it took to recover and some said over a year! I know that’s not true for everybody; for example, there was one guy 27 years old and who went to the gym every day and was very muscular who said he was back at it in only 3 weeks. Unfortunately, I’m neither muscular nor 27 years old (turn it around) but I am very impatient.

Are you a native of Florida? Is Tampa on the Gulf side? I’ll have to look it up but do you have the same season all year and do you like having sunshine and warmth every day of the year? Oh Lord, stupid question.

Thanks for explaining the abbreviation, etc., to me and Happy Halloween and/or Happy Monday.

P.S. I think Abbigale Violet is such a pretty name.

Moonshadow, what a sweet love story! I guess you both played instruments, which ones did you and he play? And, what about a young city girl moving to a 5K farm with 10K sheep and 600 hundred cows! WOW! You must have had some serious culture shock at first! So nice to have your daughter so close that she can come round for breakfast and stay to help you plant.

A nectarine tree? You have a nectarine tree? Amazing–and it’s not a big deal for y’all! (southern contraction) And rhubarb; I don’t ever see much use of rhubarb here in the south but I have seen it in the stores in the last few years. I remember my mother, who was Scottish, grew rhubarb when I was little. Do y’all raise most of your own vegetables? Is your kumara the same as our southern sweet potatoes?

So sweet of you to put out the plants for the butterflies. I’ve only seen a couple of yellow butterflies and can’t remember when I’ve last seen a Monarch. I don’t have flowering plants out this year. A couple years ago I did plant what was described to me only as “butterfly bushes” and the butterflies did come and enjoy them. But, it’s like the birds–I can’t entice them into my yard anymore because of the cats.

What is your daughter’s name? Is Meegz a nickname or a contraction of her full name? And how did your kitty get the name Shadz?

    Warm regards, Dell

I laughed so much at the kitty with the cobweb on his face. That very well could be one of my cats talking to me. I’m not a fastidious housekeeper anymore, I’m waiting to get over that damn surgery! But the pics are great fun.

A special thank you to Katzenjammer and Moonshadow for every day making me laugh.

KJ, have you had another career as a college professor or something like that? You are so well-versed in SO MANY subjects and are so sophisticated, as per Merriam-Webster: “Having or showing a lot of experience and knowledge about the world and about culture, art, literature, etc.” And one senses about you a certain je ne sais quoi as from Dictionary.com: “An indefinable, elusive quality, especially a pleasing one.” As you know, one can choose from different explanations of this French expression used as noun and, for me, this one fits my impression of you best. Boy do I sound snooty—maybe so, but it is said with sincerity.
