No tears–Cindy would frown on that! SO I have decided that every Thanksgiving I will make at least one of her recipes. I wish that I had the carrot cake recipe. She will always be the most gracious woman I have known!

Karen this is the thread you talked about. I also believe you had either tried WWM’s cranberry relish or Cindy’s (ReneefromArkansas). I have this book marked and I am here every fall–missing her and praying that Ron is well.

When we do Thanksgiving I do it simple. We brine the turkey these days, it makes for a much juicier turkey and then roast/bake.

I make pumpkin pie, I use paula deen’s crust recipe but I add twice the sugar, I roast the pumpkin, puree it and then use the recipe on the back of the mckormick pumpkin spice jar.

Apple pie – i cheat, I buy the claim jumper ones, they’re usually like $5 at walmart during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season

    Cornbread Dressing with Sage

Roasted Yams, Carrots, Squash, Turnips, Parsnips, red potatoes

    Steamed Broccoli

    Yeast Dinner Rolls

    Gravy (of course)

Cranberry sauce, i try a new recipe often

    Chicken and Dumplings (sometimes)

    Mashed Potatoes

Green Bean Casserole (I add like twice the amount of fried onions, this is like my favorite gross dish.)

we usually do a veggie and a fruit trays with yogurt as appetizers

I don’t use recipes, for most of it, but if any of it sounds good to you, I can give you approximations.

I miss Cindy. Time to think about the menu I guess–Swanson’s TV dinner more likely this year as no one will be home.

What a wonderful look back at TDK history and seeing so many friends who aren’t with us anymore.

SM, don’t you dare do a TV dinner!!!

Mini SM will be home, so it is just us this year. I really don’t want to do a full meal. I want turkey and she wants cranberry sauce. I probably will just make a salad with cranberry dressing, a turkey breast, and cranberry sauce. Just not the same when family isn’t around.

    Easy Apple Crisp

    5-7 c. sliced apples

    1 c. flour

    3/4 c. sugar

    1 tsp. baking powder

    3/4 tsp. salt

    1 unbeaten egg

    1/4 c. butter, melted

    1/2 tsp. cinnamon (or more!)

Place applies in bottom of greased baking dish. Mix first 5 ingredients with fork until crumbly and place on top of apples. Pour cooled, melted butter over top and sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake 30 to 40 minutes in 350 degree oven.

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
