Yesterday evening we had a little party at a friend’s house – because she has a terrasse (patio) and it was imperative to be outdoors. This friend was back from a month in Cuba, where she had taken part in a literary festival. And another friend was back from six months in Argentina. Our “frosty” greetings from New Zealand are relevant here, because of course this friend is retired; she is originally from Argentina, fled the dictatorship to Barcelona and wound up here – long story. So now she spends the summer here and the summer down there. Mostly avoiding our winter, as winter in Buenos Aires province (which does not include the large capital city, but several other cities and towns as well as rural areas) is mild, like winter in much of Italy and Spain. Except for down in Patagonia, most snowy weather is in mountains and highlands.
I had made tiny chicken meatballs in a sauce of mild red peppers and a bit of tomato. This was hoovered up, as were various fishy things.
Do to circumstances, neither of these friends, who love cats as much as I do, currently has any, so of course they immediately as about Livia.
The days are so long now that it was still a bit light when I walked home.
There is a heat wave across Russia now too (for the World Cup)! Many people forget that notoriously frigid countries such as Russia and Canada can have extremely hot summer weather. I’m having a cool shower before running errands – early. I don’t have AC – there is a large Norway maple tree outside my home office and balcony so it is usually pleasantly cool, but today might be hot. I can always work at a nearby library.
Livia, of course, has found the coolest spots on the hardwood floors and on the back balcony, which is shady in the afternoon.
