I couldn’t imagine getting my weekly kitchen cleaning done in 15 minutes! I’ve been at it for two hours already, though to be fair, I had done some cooking – food for guests or to take to potlucks. I made a freeform pie; the crust is basically like pizza dough – organic flour, bit of egg (to make it more pliable), olive oil, water, small quantity of yeast – fermented on its own with a bit of the flour as a “poolish” to add to the dough; it is filled with a mixture of goat-milk ricotta, organic eggs, a bit of stronger goat’s or ewe’s milk cheese, some spinach, some herbs and other things… the crust is folded over the filling, pleated – it is very pretty. Brushed with an egg wash.
I try to make a lot of vegetarian and vegetable-based dishes. If I’m hosting on the 24th I do a no-red-meat or poultry meal, basically Italian with some Portuguese and Slavic influences (that is, some pickled fish as well), but if people don’t eat fish there are a lot of vegetable dishes. Though I’m just as likely to host a supper on the Soltice or any day when people will have time off work; I don’t really celebrate any particular holiday.
I do clean up as I cook, but it always leaves a bit of a mess, and I’m trying to clean at least some of the pantry shelves, wash the glassware etc. It always gets dusty in cities, although the kitchen cupboards have doors.
I want to get some hand-washing done as well.
Yes, I’ve seen the cheese thread 😛 In general, I don’t like sweets very much, but do like some slightly-sweet foods such as croissants. Chocolate without any sweetener is also used in cookery, not only in traditional moles from Mexico, but also in some kinds of rye bread…
Livia decided that she wanted out despite the bitter temps, and actually spent about half an hour outside before deciding it was FAR TOO COLD. She is a shorthair – I imagine that cats such as Maine Coons, Norwegian and Siberian forest cats are better adapted to cold winter days.
