Here is a previous chat link on fleas.

Also click on pink tags on upper right for more chat/links

You can also put a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner bag to kill fleas after clean up.

DE works well but messy. There are TOXIC sprays (Raid) you can use in your home but be sure all pets are removed from area treated! Clean/vac room. Wash bedding etc. Pets can be in room once cleaned & safley aired out.

if i put all the cats in a seperate room and spray the raid on the carpets and couches, should i then wash/shampoo the furniture and carpets and vaccuum, and bathe the cats before bringing them back in that room so i can treat the rest of the house? also i have a dog who stays in the back yard quite often what should i do about him??is there anything i can put in the grass to prevent fleas from infesting him again?

I would be as thorough as possible.

There is a TOXIC flea spray for you lawn but

rather than risk kit’s health you can treat kit w/DE by putting on fur before take outside plus there are natural non-toxic topical flea treatments avail from pet stores until old enough to use Frontline etc. Flea Treatment injections are usually avail from Vet too.

Beware of some so-called “natural” non-toxic flea treatments. I once applied one made by a reputable company to one of my cats, George; it completely removed the hair on the spot where it was applied. She reacted right away, I suspect it was a sensitivity that resulted in a burn.

(Food-grade diatomaceous earth is the only thing I know of that is completely non-toxic, provided you don’t inhale it. It doesn’t work chemically, but rather mechanically – giving the fleas the death of a thousand cuts.)

cool thanks. once i get the fleas out of my carpet/furniture i can handle the fleas on the cats/kittens, so basically the dogs will be my main concern, since they go outside- in the yard and for walks. ive been appling flea drops on them, its a walmart brand so i dont know how good it is…

also instead of starting a new thread can anyone give me any ideas why my momma cat would feed my older kittens (not hers) but avoid feeding her own unless im next to her watching her and making her feed them?? my other momma cat (the mother of the older kittens) will feed the newborns but only when they cry for a while and their mother isnt doing it…. this is soo confusing to me . they are both strays and i know that alot of times stray mothers will feed eachothers kittens- and that sometimes a mother will “disown” her kittens if theres something wrong with them, but for her to feed them when im around, and the other momma to feed them i dont think thats the case.

i found online to sprinkle salt on the carpets and furnature- leave it for 24 hours then vaccuum. ive been doing that and its working. today was the 2nd time doing it- i cleaned, vaccuumed, sprayed lemon water (also something i read online- something about the citris ?) i waited a few hours for everything to dry then sprinkled (and worked into the carpet) more salt and bathed all the cats (and my dog)now they are all asleep- the 3 older kittens (tiger, callie, and precious) are huddled together in a blanket that i layed out for them. and the momma (icis aka princess) and her two 11 day old babies (a girl and a boy no names yet they havent opened their eyes yet, but they are getting more defined in the face- so any day now)they are huddled asleep in their box- and she NEVER sleeps in there with them!!!! but its all so cute 🙂 no ones scratching, bitting, or licking constantly. just peaceful.(for now)

btw- i washed them all in luke warm water and dawn dish detergent, picking off fleas with the flea comb. and again, combing them out while dring them off. i dont think anything will happen to the 11 day olds- i have read everywhere not to bathe them until 2-3 weeks old, but they had it so bad i had to! i just dipped them in the water briefly and rubbed a lil dawn on them (i kept it away from their heads) then i combed them, quickly rinsed them off and combed them again while drying
