    From the weather channel:

Big storm slams much of the country

Kevin Roth, Lead Meteorologist, The Weather Channel

    Dec. 7, 2009 12:55 pm ET

A major storm moves from Southern California later today to northern Oklahoma Tuesday to the eastern Great Lakes Wednesday. It will cause heavy rain, heavy snow, severe thunderstorms, blizzard conditions, strong winds, and some icing to much of the country along its path.

Low pressure crashes into Southern California Monday afternoon and evening bringing heavy rain to Los Angeles and San Diego. Flooding and some mud slides are possible, especially in the burn areas, as the heavy rain passes through. In the cities up to an inch of rain is possible with 1 to 4 inches possible in the lower hills.

Above 3,000 feet heavy snow is likely with over a foot of accumulation expected. Snow should accumulate on parts of I-5 and I-15 north and northeast of Los Angeles and even on parts of I-10 east of Riverside tonight.

Overnight the storm passes through southern Nevada, southern Utah and southern Colorado bringing heavy rain to the deserts and heavy mountain snow above 5,000 feet. Given the heavy rain flooding is likely across the deserts through tonight.

Snowfall of 2 to 4 feet accompanied by winds of 20 to 40 mph and gusts to 60 mph brings blizzard conditions to the mountains of the Southwest through Tuesday. Blizzard warnings have been posted over parts of southwest Colorado, southeast Utah, eastern Arizona and western New Mexico through Tuesday afternoon.

The storm brings significant snowfall to the Plains, parts of the Midwest and parts of the Great Lakes Tuesday through Wednesday. Some areas from northern Kansas and southern Nebraska through northern Michigan may pick up over a foot of snow by the time the storm ends.

Heavy rain and a small severe thunderstorm threat are in store for the South as the system rapidly moves through Tuesday and Wednesday. Widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 4 inches are expected from eastern Texas through the western Carolinas. The biggest threat of severe thunderstorms is over southern Mississippi and eastern Louisiana Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Don’t think any of us are immune! Stay safe family!

They have already issued gale force wind warnings for tomorrow here in our area. The forecast calls for winds of 100 mph in the mountains and up to 60 mph here in the Permian Basin. And it’s all from that storm.

Make sure you have your emergency food supplies and safety kits ready for winter, batteries, candles, matches etc.

Keep safe and warm everyone, and your kits.

I knew something big was moving around weather wise when I woke up to 18 degree temps this morning! It’s not going above 25 today then dipping back down to 15 tonight. Brrrrr!!! Great soup & chili weather! =)

Yowza Karen!!! It’s pretty nippy here, but nothing compared to that. Altho for us, it’s a big deal what with the rain and it’s getting windier…supposed to be pretty big winds later today and tonight!

I’ve been amazed at how little rain and snow we’ve had up to now. Normally by now we’ve had plenty of both. Today the skies are blue and the sun is shining (for what good it’s doing..haaha), but REAL cold! =)

West Coast here — just north of downtown LA. We have had .70 inches of rain so far and one really nice rainbow about 4:30 p.m. My neighbor and I did our weekly shopping this morning and there were lots of loaded carts going out into the rain.

RIght now, the rain has stopped, but we’re supposed to get west winds on the tail of this storm. And more wet weather predicted for the end of the week. The cats have thick fur now, so I suspect it may be a cold, wet winter.

    Stay safe, all.

It is so strange here. The temperature is hovering between 30 and 31 degrees and there is something that I can only describe as ice falling. Not snow. Very weird.
