2 eaglets and counting down for number 3! Everything I’ve read said that it could be two more days before the third hatches. This is so fascinating to watch and learn about the eagles. I hope the eagle cam stays on so that we can watch the babies grow.

Boy–sure is windy at the Eagles Nest today–feathers fluttering and the tree is moving. That must be a bit disconcerting for Mom or Pop, whichever is sitting right now. But the watchful eye is keeping tabs on everything that moves.

They had a close up of the feathers a little while ago – was that snow falling?

The babies are a riot! They are so head-heavy they can barely sit up. Ma & Pa sure are patient in feeding them. I hope they keep the cam on for a while too. It has been interesting seeing the tiny changes in the babies in just 2 days!

Katthays, I worried about them last night when we were getting a lot of rain, wind, and hail in some places. Those feathers must keep them well-protected.

Joan, I just put it up on my computer when the babies were being fed. I was amazed at how they ate the food straight from mama’s beak.

Hehe, they’ve learned so much in their short lives so far. Yesterday they were having the darndest time figuring out the whole “food thing”!

Awww–I just watched the bird feed one of the babies, and he/she is completely ignoring the other baby–did not feed that one a single bite. And yesterday, when feeding, he/she only gave the one just one single bite of food and the rest to the other. I know in Nature, it’s survival of the fittest, but that’s so sad. And just now, once, the one getting fed pecked at the other one and sort of pushed it down. 🙁

Well, they both got some lunch. Guess the little one got tired of getting pushed around and gathered all its energy to keep its head up to get some noms.

Anyone remember the cartoon, probably 60s era, with Sniffles the mouse? I think it was Sniffles anyway. At any rate, one of the lines had a large bird behind the mouse saying in a fatherly, deliberate, informative tone:

“For your information, it IS a baby eagle!”

Oh, that’s good they both got to eat, Joan. I was really worried about the little guy. I finally read some of the info at the bottom of one of the cam pictures and figured out how to tell which bird is Mama and which is Papa. But that section doesn’t come up each time you get a cam feed. Did not know female is the larger of the two, and her eyes have a longer and more distinct boney ridge above them. Now at least I can tell who is sitting. 😉

So parent is sitting on the egg & 1 baby, the other is hanging out of sitting range and chattering non-stop. It seems to be busying itself with the remains of last night’s dinner between complaining about being left out. I guess they don’t scoop them under; maybe the other parent will when it arrives. Doesn’t seem to be in danger of falling; if it can’t get 6 inches closer to mama, it certainly can’t move 6 inches in the other direction and make its way over the branches of the nest.

This is so cute – like watching a baby take first steps!

Well, it finally made it’s way back to Mama/Papa–whichever and is now underneath in the warmth. Guess they sort of have to do it on their own to show survival instinct. Or maybe it was a “lesson” not to bite the bird that’s feeding you, which it did several times till parent slung it’s head and it got knocked over to the side.

Waiting for the boss, who is right outside my office, to come in and ask if I have a bird in here. I’ll say “Yes – two Bald Eagles, two fledglings, and one unhatched egg!”
