    Hi all,

    This is a totally weird question, but recently I’ve noticed a lot of kitties on tdk who have been rescued from dumpsters, streets abandoned places etc… i always watch the side of the road and freeways as we drive to look for little creatures that may be lost etc… but so far have spotted none.

    Do people who find these kitties look or just happen upon them? Should I be peaking in the dumpster across the street occasionally or do people hear the meows?

    I just feel like I should do more, but am unsure of what to do? Maybe my time will come to be a rescue momma, but I just have to wait? ~lara

    I just happened upon Sebastian when I was taking the trash out on my birthday. I don’t know how long he’d been in the dumpster, but I’m glad he decided to holler when he did.

    I had never found a kitten anywhere, much less a dumpster. I think it was just destiny. We were together for 18 wonderful years, and he was the sweetest kitty ever.

    Welcome to TDK, Lara. I’ve never rescued a kitty in a dumpster, either!

    If you’re interested in helping out or rescuing a kitty, though, our Susie has some cute ones in need of a good home.

    Lara..you have such a wonderful heart, it sounds like you do your best to stay on kitty watch..it may be more of the area you’re in..the larger the city, the bigger the problem..but it’s wonderful to know that your always looking for a kitty in need…{{{HUGS}}}

    Lara, I know some folks have found kitties in/near dumpsters. This makes a lot of sense, with the amount of food that we, as a society, throw out daily. Younger cats or kittens may be especially prone to this. They may be a lot more proficient at scavenging than hunting critters, at least when they’re young. And dumpster garbage doesn’t bite back, the way a squirrel, rat, or rabbit might.

    Have you considered becoming a foster mom? Lots of organizations need foster families. For the fostered animals, the only alternative is often euthanasia (such as a female cat with unweaned kittens).

    Hello Lara..happy to see you on TDK…I didn’t have to go looking for my lost kitties..They found their way to me via their mom and our wood shed! She hid them as long as she could but eventually they got curious and began to poke their little noses out. We lost mama to an unknown happening but the 4 kids are here to stay. ‘Instant Kitty Family’…I do believe it’s Location, Location, Location. Some areas are more prone to the population explosion of the feline species. (Like Manteca, Ca.) *waving at Susie*

    Hmmmmm, do we have anyone in Lara’s neck of the woods who could go looking for a dumpster near her?

    Thanks to everyone for their kind replies! I have two cats (Missy and Trudy – ages 2 and 3), but know we could always have it in our hearts to be an emergency mom if needed. I guess I will continue to keep my eyes peeled, just in case a little furbaby needs me. 🙂

    Ironically enough, my husband and I are applying for our foster license to adopt from the state — we are hoping for a human, though kitties are nice and fuzzy to have too! 🙂
