My 9 week old Alice is driving me up a wall this week. She is biting me constantly, any bit of my exposed skin she thinks is for her to bite. If I’m charging my cell phone she thinks that the cord is there for her to eat. She picks/scratches at our comforter and my boyfriends expensive recliner. So far I haven’t seen any damage on either yet but it’s making my boyfriend upset. We love our Alice and other than the biting we have no problems. I try to clip her nails when she’s relaxed and cuddly but she bites me when I do. She has scratching posts and toys, lots and lots of toys. We have a lot of entertainment for her but so far nothing is helping the biting. I’ll scruff her and occasionally it makes her stop and sulk off but generally she comes back to do it again. What else can we do? I’m at my wits end this week, I’m ready to get past this stage any advice is welcome thanks.

That will eventually reduce over time and especially after she’s Spayed… The best thing you can do at the moment is redirect the biting.. If you can have one of her string toys at had in the most troublesome areas and as soon as she starts the unwanted behaviors distract her if you do this religiously she’ll eventually learn she’ll get satisfaction from the toy and not your toes 🙂

Warm welcome to TDK Melissa! Great advice from Buttons as interaction with toy and it is a stage!
Here is a past but recent chat/link on similar subject!

You can also hiss at her as reprimand and scruff her at neck as mama kit would!

I agree with Buttons and Jean, it just takes lots of patience and diversion to something else besides your skin. They will eventually get it, but each kitten is different and some just take more time. Try rubbing some catnip on the scratching post and taking her paws and rub them on the post so she gets the idea. Sometimes they will climb up a chair or couch (afterall, what are claws for?) but once they are bigger they jump up and lose the desire to use claws for that purpose. I have moved the kitten away if they are almost in a frenzy of play biting to being off by themselves, almost like a kitty time-out and they don’t like it but when they find you again they have lost some of that kitten energy. Patience is the key here, they do outgrow the chewy, bitey stage. Also, their gums may hurt or itch too, like human babies and they don’t know how to relieve it.

Great comment from Kittyzee too as reminder about upcoming teething! You can get teething toys or frozen straws/water for kits to chew on!

you can aslo try to divert her attention with catnip and toys. cats love wand toys alot. you can also try balls and stuff, but wand toys honestly usually get their attention most. 🙂

Ks everyone we do have a wand toy but she prefers the little cheap fleece balls. She has started carrying one around in the last couple days lolwhich is what is entertaining her right now. I tried hissing at her earlier when I scruffed her but she just looked at me like I was crazy and climbed back up the chair. I’ll keep at it thanks

try playing with balls when she wants to scratch at you.
