Seems like we just can’t win… I have two orphaned kittens that are now about two and a half weeks old. They were okay for the first week that I had them, then both came down with severe diarrhea in the second week. They were treated by our vet and recovered. For the last few days they have been constipated, and my vet taught me how to give them enemas. They would have normal stools when I gave them enemas.
Now, however, just when I thought things were starting to improve (the male kitten had a normal stool all on his own today!), the female kitten has come down with a mix of diarrhea and normal stool. This morning she was having little spurts of water diarrhea, then she had a fairly normal stool, then a lot of diarrhea, then another normal stool. I am totally baffled. Haven’t changed her food at all in the time we’ve had her– she’s eating powdered Kittymilk (the South African version of KMR)– and her appetite is good. I’ve started giving her Pedialyte again to help with the dehydration. I’m just wondering if anyone knows what would cause this mix of diarrhea followed by constipation followed by more diarrhea, since they seem like opposite problems.
