Most of you know that I live in a duplex with a very nice young couple living on the other side. They know that I do not observe Halloween and are very considerate about keeping their decorations on their own side of the property. When I got home last night, though, right after reading about Debsterwiz being gone, it took every bit of self-control I had not to kick and smash all the fake gravestones and plastic pieces arranged to look like a skeleton coming up out of the ground. Death is nothing to celebrate! It’s not something you display in your yard for a month! It’s painful and tragic and rips holes in peoples lives! Because I am a Christian, I believe that God himself went through it so that it will ultimately be destroyed–as the Wolf put it, “when Time is at an end.” Time isn’t at an end yet, though, and death still stings horribly. Having this day that celebrates death, and fear, shoved right in front of my face is even worse now than in other years.
