My brother found a kitten placed in a box on the side of the road recently. We guessed she was about 4 weeks old and have had her for about 3 weeks now. She was peeing and pooping fine and then I switched her to KMR formula (as opposed to the ready made can) and she was still pooping, but i noticed she was straining a bit and circling her box for a while until she relieved herself. The last time she pooped was tuesday late at night and it was a bit softer than usual, she stepped in it and made a mess and I quickly put her under the sink (water was warm but not too hot) and washed her off. Since then she hasnt had any bowel movements. Yesterday I added a bit of vegetable oil to her food to no avail and today i called the vet and they told me to give her some whole milk and canned food. After feeding her that I left her for a bit (if Im around her with the litter box she gets too excited and won’t always relieve herself), when I came back I realized her anus was swollen and she had peed but still no poop. I can tell that the milk upset her tummy and has things moving a bit. I have been rubbing her belly and her butt with a paper towl soaked in warm water (but it has not been working). I recently found her under my bed chewing some plastic lining on a bag and Im worried thats whats causing this all. Any other things I can do, the vet is closed today and tomorrow, otherwise I would have had her there right away 🙁

Definitely check out this thread made by Chaos, she has tons of knowledge on bottle fed kittens and made a guide for constipation! Has a bunch of different things you can try! 🙂

Also, I would recommend cotton balls instead of paper towels, especially if her butt is swollen.. they are much more gentle! 🙂 Good luck, and check back in with us, hope your baby poops ASAP!! ♥

Hehe, Chelsea, I think this is an older kitten (: She should see a vet to make sure she doesn’t have a blockage, but to help otherwise I recommend against whole milk but using goats milk or evaporated milk instead.
