my almost 1 year old cat has recently developed diarrhea for the last 3 days. I am not 100% sure but I am assuming it may be due to the fact that it has been very nice here the last few days so i took her out for walks for about 3 days straight (ending 2 days ago). SO to sum up, she was outside eating grass for the first time in her life for about 3 days straight and now has not been out for the past 2 days yet she still has diarrhea (I am assuming it is probably due to the grass eating??) My question is whether this is dangerous and also do you think that it should be gone if she hasn’t been out for 2 days?

    I am really worried

Usually when kitties eat grass, it causes them to vomit, not to have the runs? Grass grazing is a very normal thing for kitties.

Its possible that she ate something that doesnt agree with her, but then she could also have picked up a virus.

Check her clinical status. Do the tent test, if she’s dehydrated, she’s in trouble. Check her gum colour – it should be pale pink. Red/bright pink usually indicates a fever, pale/white/yellow means liver or blood complications, or very low blood pressure. Is she running a fever? Eating normally? Acting her usual self?

Big ones to worry about are fever and dehydration. As long as those are not an issue, I put my kitties on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice for a few days, with some plain yogurt, and see how it goes. Most of the time the diahrea clears up on its own within 3-4 days. If it doesnt, obviously we go to the vet.

    Hope this helps?

If the cat goes outside there is exposure to many things that might cause diarrhea. The best thing to do is get her to her veterinarian to determine the cause. I’ve had cats develop the runs and every time it was cleared up with a medication like metronidazole. Only the vet knows for sure what will take care of the problem. I hope she does better soon.
