I’ve been trying to transition my 6 month old kitten into a grain-free diet. His stomach could not tolerate Blue Wilderness Kitten, so I’ve been trying to move him over to Natural Balance Green Pea & Duck. He won’t eat the Green Pea & Duck. Literally, he will not touch it. He would much rather eat the Iams kitten food, which is a) not grain-free, and b) likely not as good for him. Is it okay for me to simply slowly transition him completley to the Iams, or should I really keep trying with the Green Pea & Duck? (He will eat the Iams out of the mix of it and the Natural Balance … and leave every piece of the Natural Balance in the bowl.) His stomach is somewhat sensitive, which is why I was trying the Natural Balance, but the Iams doesn’t seem to be upsetting it either. Just trying to figure out what’s the best thing to do for him!

Here are a couple of good links to cat nutrition: http://www.catinfo.org and http://www.feline-nutrition.org Try him on a wet food that’s grain free and see how he does. Most kittens take to wet food or raw/frozen easily. Dry food for male cats is especially bad because they can develop crystals in their bladder. If you go to the cat info site, it’s quite large and there is a section on that. More info is good and you can base your decision on what to feed the more you know.

Kittyzee’s links are well worth a read 🙂

You could mix the two and reduce the amount of dry till eventually there’s none..

    Or

Just refuse to give him the dry .. A cat will eat when they are hungry.. They can be stubborn fools sometimes but we need to do what’s best for them in the long run and wet grain free is the best also add some goats milk to the wet food and that will I courage licking and usually quickly followed by eating 🙂

I think perhaps your cat just doesn’t like the Natural Balance kibble. I don’t think mine did either, they did eat Instinct, and Evo (which has since been sold to P&G and been recalled so don’t recommend).

Does the pet store you purchased it from allow refunds on open bags? You can try asking, some stores in my area do allow it, but they don’t advertise that they do 🙂
