Hello all! I am so glad I found this forum! I have a little girl kitty that was found at my place of work before just before her eyes were open. Mom didn’t come for her so I brought her home. That was 16 days ago. I’m guessing she’s now about 22 days old (based on when she opened her eyes). The past few days she’s been doing the frantic scratching during feeding and this is the only website I could find where this issue was addressed. She’s been doing great with bottle feeding until these past few days. She’ll latch and suckle for about a minute or so and when she breaks away I make sure she burps and it’s after that I get the frantic scratching. I know formula is getting in her mouth because I can see it but she’s mostly chewing on the bottle nipple instead of sucking. She chews on my fingers and I can feel teeth trying to come in so I went to Petco and got a couple of kittens chew toys but one of them smells like mint and she makes a squinty face when I offer it to her. I bought scales and she now weighs 13oz. I’m now feeding her every 4 to 4-1/2 hours during the day and at night I get up after 5 hours, feed her and then if there’s time I sleep another hour before I have to get up for work. Fortunately, my boss has been okay with me taking her to work and I bought a decent sized canvas cat carrier with a zip-open top for easy access to her. I have a kitty playpen coming this week so she’ll have more room to move around because she’s starting to be a little curious and moving around a bit. I appreciate the discussion here and will try a cross-cut in another nipple to see if that makes a difference (thank goodness the bottle set came with 3 of them). I have two 10-year-old cats and haven’t had a kitten in ages and never one this young so I’ll have to baby proof my house. LOL Oh and baby girl’s name is Karamel.

I have a bottle baby who does this. I grab him by the scruff like mama cat does when she carries them and it calms him enough to get the latch and then he relaxes. Also make sure the milk is warm like mama too. I find that calms down the desperation. I think some kitties are just “spoiled” the second they feel a twinge of hungriness they freak out which is fine 🙂 no kitten so ever feel hungry. Lol but unfortunately were not mama kitties and we can’t be perfect.
