It is so warm right now, its after 6 pm and its 106 degrees in Tucson and 111 degrees in Phoenix with hardly if any wind even moving thru the areas. I really need to lie down before going in this evening to “that place” but can’t seem to shut down my mind enough for that to happen. So I will surf the web a bit and then try again.

Hope that those in the path of Irene are going to be safe and have the necessary supplies for reasonable amounts of time.

Just saw this on FB, http://home2.nyc.gov/html/oem/html/hazards/storms_sheltering.shtml

Certainly, service animals that assist people with disabilities are allowed in hurricane shelters. Ideally, you should arrange to shelter other pets at a kennel or with friends or relatives outside the evacuation area. Legal pets with proper identification will be admitted into shelters with their owners. Owners should bring cleaning and food supplies with them, as well as containers and leashes.

    Hi, Deb 🙂

Please stay safe, everyone. I am hoping Irene peters out before she gets to you. Good article on keeping pets safe in civil emergencies/natural disasters from where else? messybeast, hope some of it might be useful if Irene hasn’t arrived yet: http://www.messybeast.com/disaster.htm

Phoenix hit by 4th ‘haboob’ so far this summer

    Associated Press

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 6:32 PM

PHOENIX (AP) — A cloud of dust has swallowed Phoenix at sundown for the fourth time this summer on the hottest day ever in August.

A strong thunderstorm system late Friday afternoon pushed a brown cloud over most of the city, which hit a record 117 degrees hours earlier.

Phoenix has been hit by the wall of dust, known as a haboob, on July 5, July 18 and Aug. 19.

Friday’s haboob didn’t appear to be as severe as the previous ones.

Weather experts say such massive dust storms only happen in Arizona, Africa’s Sahara desert and parts of the Middle East because of dry conditions and large amounts of sand.

The 117 degrees topped Phoenix’s previous high of 114 for August, set 10 years ago.

Phoenix hit 118 degrees on July 2.

Blimey, Deb, not to be facetious but there’s always something happening — I really don’t think I’d want to experience one of those…

It is so hard to believe that we are desperately parched here and in true danger of running out of water. Can you imagine – not water to care for the lawn but water to bathe with and to drink. And here we are on the East Coast facing the wrath of Irene. It just seems to me that something is conspiring against us…..

Many of our Australian cousins are in the same situation, WWM, and it is truly scary. I know many will disagree with me but I think we are already reaping the consequences of climate change and there is worse to come, unless we do something.
