Sorry for ot getting back about pie melon, you found what it is though. Daughter grew a couple of seeds her late grandfather had given her from some he grew. Hers didn’t grow well at all so I nursed them through winter frosts and all and then in thanks it took off. It covered an area 18’x50′ and also grew up trees and also on to the telephone lines- briefly. Once every week I had to go out and hack back the tendrils that were encroaching onto the lawn. Once we had the first frost this winter we went in amongst the burned leaves and harvested the fruit, all up we had over 50 large melons but only 47 usable melons. I can still see 2 hanging in the neighbours trees and there is one in my plum tree. Various dear old lady friends of Mums have taken some to make into jam to sell at Church fairs but I still have almost 40 left stored in the girls old playhouse, now the Melonhouse. I’ll be making apricot and melon, anagram jam(lemon & melon) and melon and cape gooseberry(husk cherry) jam when the inclination to do so finally arrives. You can’t eat these melons raw, only use is cooking for jam and pie fillings and they have no flavour so you add other fruit fr the flavour.

Woo hoo double treat as S’mores Day with Banana Split Day!

Also Lazy Day during Catfish Month…

    TODAY IN TRIVIA: S’more Time

~A s’more is a traditional campfire treat popular in the United States and Canada, consisting of a roasted marshmallow and a slab of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker.

~They were first mentioned in the Girl Scout Handbook in 1927.

~S’more folklore suggests that S’mores got its name right by the campfire. After eating one, young kids chanted “gimme some more!”

~One new variant of the s’more is the “Belgian S’more” which is made by inserting red licorice on top of the marshmallow (either before or right after heating). The result is the same s’more but with a chewy center. The naming of this is probably akin to other ‘Belgian’ recipes involving sweets.

~S’more appears to be a contraction of the phrase, “some more”.

Today we are celebrating Chocolate Pecan Pie Day & Lemonade Day!

TODAY IN TRIVIA: When life gives you LEMON, make LEMONADE!

~Lemonade is a lemon-flavored drink, typically made from lemons, water and sucrose. Due to the contrast of sweet and sour, the resulting flavor can be very agreeable to the taste buds.

~”Cloudy” lemonade: In the U.S., Canada, India and Pakistan (Nimbu Paani)lemonade refers to a mixture of lemon juice, sugar, and uncarbonated water, although there are many versions which contain artificial flavors instead of actual lemon juice.

    BTW how about Lemonade Pie:

    http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/easy-lemonade-pie/220469dc-98eb-45e1-be16-edb79589013a?k=1

~In the U.S., lemonade is usually sold as a summer refresher. It is commonly available at fairs and festivals, known in some regions as a “lemon shakeup” with the shell of the squeezed lemon left in the cup.

~Lemonade was also the traditional mixer in a Tom Collins, but today it is commonly replaced by a bar mix.

~During the European Renaissance, fashionable ladies used lemon juice as a way to redden their lips.
