My book group is reading The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline for November. I just finished it and really enjoyed the book. It is a novel but it’s based on the real Orphan Trains that ran from 1855 until about 1929. I honestly had no idea that the Orphan Trains had existed.

Tks – always looking for a good read. I’ve just finished Gillian Flynn’s “Sharp Objects” and am now reading “Gone Girl”, not to everyone’s liking, her writing is dark – very and images stay with you, but she has a writing style that I enjoy.

I couldn’t stand any of the characters in “Gone Girl” and couldn’t figure out who the author expected me to sympathize with. I sympathized with none of them.

What can I say Kilroy? I am only at the beginning of the book and reading it based on reviews and my having been fascinated with Flynn’s other book Sharp Objects. So far I like the juxtaposition between the character’s chapters. Recommending books, films, etc., it’s so personal.

E-mailed comment from Kilroy for she had difficult time getting back into TDK Forum:
Will someone please tell Katzenjammer from me that I wasn’t being critical in the book thread, just expressing an opinion? I don’t want her to think I was slamming her. 🙂 Purrs…

Thanks guys – I like hearing suggestions for stuff to read and I am happy to see some action in the TDK book club.

Hope that you can read this Kilroy, if not JK will you do me the honour of getting this reply to her? tks!

No worries Kilroy. It’s just a book we’re discussing after all. Long story short, after my spin class at the gym one person says the music is the best of all time, a second one says they 100% hate it and a third says can their personal top 10 be played. No worries … absolutely. We’re good 🙂 Purrs back.

Thanks for playing messenger, JK 🙂

KJ, you spin? I recently went back to the gym after a long time off & am trying to work my way back up to where I think I could survive a spinning class, because when I was doing it regularly I LOVED it.

Kilroy, I absolutely love spinning. Pretty much overdo it 6x/week intense, don’t bike outside however, so I guess I’m going nowhere fast! Certified to teach, but don’t would turn pleasure into pressure, mainly from the fussy participants (cf previous post). Was going to post in CafĂ© but what you’re going through re pain seems horrifying and frustrating. I truly hope that your docs can figure out something and soon, so that eventually you can get back on a bike. Take good care.
