Okay so I woke up at 4 this morning to hear meowing right outside my window in the shed because it’s attached to the house. I looked out my window but didn’t see anything so I figured I was just imagining it. The meowing continued so I got up and went outside. I heard meowing as I walked near the shed so I went to grab a flashlight and came back outside. I opened the shed and as soon as I entered I heard something run out the hole in the back. I stayed still hoping it would come back but eventually gave in. I went back inside to lay down and maybe ten minutes later the meowing started back up. I grabbed a can of cat food I always keep as a treat for my cat and went outside. This time instead of going through the shed I went around the back to where the hole was. Sure enough when I looked through the hole there was a little orange kitty staring back at me. I went back inside to ask my roommate to help me get the kitten but all he did was turn over and go back to sleep. I went back out there and the kitten was gone. I sat out a trail of food for him/her but it remained untouched for the next hour I sat out there waiting on it. I eventually grabbed the can of food and left what was already put out for the kitten and headed back inside. It’s been two hours and I haven’t heard a meow or movement within the shed. I’m terrified the kitty will wonder off to the highway (which I can see from my doorway). I would really love to bring in this beautiful kitten but how can I get it back here and once it’s back, how do I get it inside? Even if I can’t bring him/her inside, will leaving food and water out for it be enough to keep if away from the highway?

Leaving food out is the best you can do, really. The only other thing I can suggest is putting one half of a baby alarm/walkie talkie thing in the shed and the other by your bed, so that if kitten does come back and start eating the food, you can hear him or her. But that assumes you can get your hands on a baby alarm. Nonetheless, cats are pretty canny, if kitty discovers that you have left it food, I think she or he will stick around. Sadly, I can’t answer for the highway. But once he or she is used to getting food from you, you can try to trap the little one to bring him or her inside.

    Adding the trapping tag…
