My kittens are all scheduled for their neuter/spaying at 16 weeks. Unfortunately, and surprisingly to me, an adult male stray got into my house and mated one of my baby girls this morning. My human munchkins must have not seen him when the left for school and let him in. All I know is I was doing dishes and heard a baby screaming. I went to search and there he was on her and wasn’t phased by my yelling and clapping. At first I thought he was attacking her and grabbed him by his scruff to get him off her. Nope, he was attached and she howled in pain when she came with him when I pulled. I’m so sick to my stomach…is she pregnant? Have I hurt her by pulling? I’m waiting for my vet to open but I just didn’t think this was possible since the vet said it’s not necessary to fix until 4 months old. Being a kitten Mommy is more stressful than human mommy sometimes

Yikes Rachael, I’m so sorry to hear you and your baby went through this. Must have been so stressful!

Cats usually don’t reach sexual maturity until they’re about 6 months of age (which is why vets usually spay/neuter around then). However, they can actually become pregnant as young as four months. I would say that’s the cutoff though, with few exceptions, so while it is unlikely your girl is pregnant, it’s still possible. You’re doing the right thing by going to the vet.

Has she been showing any signs at all of being in heat? Meowing, roaming the house, licking at herself down there?

Horrors! I hope he didn’t hurt her tiny lady parts. How did the pedophile tom get in?

I have never heard of a kitten as young as her getting pregnant. Needless to say, the prospects would be dire for the baby mum and the little embryos, that would have no room to develop. Is she bleeding down there?

Yes, get her to the vet as soon as possible.

Where you live, is there a trap, neuter, release programme?

I’m not really sure how he got in but my best guess was it was the kiddos leaving for school. We just moved into this home last night though so it could have ways I don’t know about yet. No baby girl isn’t that I can tell showing any signs, she’s acting just like she always has, a kitten. Her mom is in heat again though. She’s also scheduled for the same time but we have been making sure Mom is caged if the door is going to be opened so she won’t get escape and get pregnant again.

Baby is being very vocal since then. Wanting cuddles and meowing if I’m not holding her. Awww, I think I hurt her pulling them apart poor baby

Makes sense… the tom probably wanted to get to the mother and in his confusion grabbed the first female he could see. Highly doubt she’s in heat then. Poor little baby. 🙁 Good luck at the vet’s, please keep us updated.

That’s why I’m so confused. Everything I’ve ever read, heard is that unless they’re in heat a tom won’t try to mate. This just erases all I know on the subject sadly.

When cats are hormonal they do all kinds of things because they have such strong urges. They can be more violent than normal, more affectionate than normal, etc. They can get territorial and try to show dominance, etc. I think that as long as their urges are there they will do most anything to get some relief. This is why it’s so, so important to get your cats fixed; I’m glad you are!

I’m sure your wee girl wasn’t in heat, HOWEVER, it is possible for kits to go into heat and get pregnant as early as 4 months. I know it sounds incredible but vet. science has changed from 6 months to 4 months and, now, many will recommend spaying/neuter at that time.

She is hurting because she wasn’t ready. If your girl is not bleeding or have any other discharge, then she’s probably OK. She needs reassurance from her meowmy.

Give her gentle kisses and hugs.

Have you had a chance to take her to the vet?

Yes, she was fine just a bit traumatized by his actions. I’m sorry I should have remembered to update but our almost 2 year old kitty baby died suddenly and I completely forgot.

I’m glad your girl is OK. I can understand the trauma.

Do you know what happened to your 2 year kit?
