    Hello, KK here.

So, I’m having a problem with Yuki right now. She has this habbit of biting and scratching my bare skin. When I’m relaxing and just laying around, she would chase my hands and bite it and kick it. I just let her but if I can’t bear it anymore I just pull my hands and scars are everywhere. Hands, wrist, elbow, knees. It’s not that bad but I heard I can get Tetanus if I let her. And she’d run away if I wear gloves/ socks. I am so inexperienced with cats so a piece of advice would be helpful ?

Hi, KK. Welcome to TDK. Congratulations on Yuki choosing you to be her human! I am owned by three female cats–Digit, Furl and Boots. They bring a lot of joy into our home.

You asked about how to stop Yuki from biting and scratching you. I think most TDKers who’ve had this problem would tell you to not let Yuki play with your hands. She clearly is trying to get you to play with her. Kittens will often play with each other by play biting and batting each other with their paws. Try to initiate play sessions with her using cat toys instead of your hands. Reward her with praise and/or a treat when she interacts appropriately with a cat toy. This will teach her that hands are for petting and giving treats, not for play biting. If she tries to bite or claw you, turn away and ignore her briefly. Never yell at Yuki or hit her. She doesn’t know any better and is doing what comes naturally to her. She will soon learn that playing with feather wands and other cat toys is lots of fun.

I hope you and Yuki have many years of fun together. Thanks for rescuing her!

Thanks for helping ? I’ll try my best to play with her using variety of toys. That was one good piece of advice. As for treats, I’ll buy ’em right away 😉
