My brother’s elderly cat Kes slipped away last night. I saw her yesterday and she had a look in her eyes that I’ve seen before. It’s the look when kitty knows all will be okay but is scared of what is happening to her physically. Her breathing was a bit fast and she felt cool despite the hot weather. Kes’ beautiful sleek and extraordinarily soft black fur is restored as she blinks her eyes and meets…more black cats from the family! “I’ve heard so much about all of you!” Kes exclaims, looking not just at blackies Jinx, Aja, Taz, Jetta, Sly and Smokie, but also at PJ, Charcoal, Chipsey, Rascal, Maxie, Jackie, Chinook, Simba, Callie, Shaddo and Jiggs. Several kits from generations further back arrive, and upon hearing she’s a family member of TDKr residents, TDK kitties arrive.
A certain kitty steps up to Kes. “Hi! I just got here too! Isn’t it wonderful how great we feel? I think I felt cruddy, but I don’t really remember.” “Me neither. Daddy wanted me to eat, but I didn’t want to. He even carried me to my litterbox, wasn’t that nice? He held me and petted me and I hope he is okay.” replies Kes, who thinks this kitty is so striking he should be on a greeting card. (He was.) “He will be. As the author of this writing has said, the human heart is fragile, and they need time to figure out how to do things without your direction and guidance and companionship. You’ll see him again. And Shaddo over there knows the exact spot where there is a view of everything – he showed me yesterday. You will be able to tell him you are okay. We can all purr really loud later to help!” “Why thank you, young man. I like your big green bow tie!” “Gee, thank you,” blushes Buttons. “So, you have lots of family and friends to meet, but first, is there anything you need?” “Well there is one thing – if it isn’t too much trouble – I would love some fresh liverwurst!”*
*Kes loved liverwurst, but only when it was fresh.
RIP lovely Kes.
