I live in the Syracuse, NY 13209 area and am looking to find homes for 1 cat and 2 kittens (the 2nd we are still deciding on). We really don’t want to have to leave them with a shelter, so finding them homes in advance of our move date (the 1st of November; we’ll still be in Syracuse, just in a different part) is our best hope. The mother cat was a stray we took in so we’re really not sure what kind of cat she is or how old she is (though she seems young).

    Name: Kit

I was taken in when I was already two-weeks pregnant and had my kittens indoors; ever since, I have been an indoor cat. And even though I know how to use the litter-box and don’t mind being inside, I enjoy being able to go outside and sniff the grass and walk about. The people who took me in don’t know how old I am or if I’ve had any vaccinations, although I haven’t had any health problems recently. I am very talkative, but it usually means that I am hungry or want attention. I do not mind being held but just not for very long as I’m most comfortable on all fours. I can be playful when I want to. I have lots of fur to be groomed and petted.

    • Kit is probably overdue for a Vet’s visit, so keep this in mind.

    • She has her own special litter-box (it’s enclosed as to discourage kicking the litter out as she tends to do). She has never had an “accident” in any of the three places we have stayed.

    • She isn’t spayed.

    • She’s a really sweet cat with lots of character and rather adaptable to new surroundings.

    Name: Daisy

I’ll be eight weeks old on October 30th. I am one of three siblings, all girls. I have lots of energy and love to play. I like to fall asleep on laps or next to you if the spot is comfy enough. I love to climb things too. I need help using the litter-box until I find the right kind of litter and box that I like, so I hope you can be patient in helping me find just the right one.

    • At 9 weeks she’ll need vaccinations typical for kittens. Then again at 12 weeks, so on and so forth.

    • She hasn’t had much success with using the litter-box but we suspect it may be the litter/box we’re using, though her sisters seem to be getting along fine with the current set up.

    • She recognizes her name a bit although she was named a bit later than the rest.

    • She has already started eating solid kitten food.

I can’t help you as I have too many kitties now and not really allowed anymore in my house plus I live in AZ. But you might try to put this on Catster also, a lot of people visit there too and PetFinder might be a good one. Good luck they are beautiful kitties.

I wasn’t familiar with those sites, but I’ll give them a look, thanks.

And I just remembered also, try to see if your local vet’s office will let you put up a flyer or ad about finding good furever homes for them. A lot of times they have a bulletin board and/or know of someone who is looking for new family members or who knows someone that fosters until adoption.

That’s a good idea. I’ve already put flyers up in a friend’s business (she’s a tailor, so she sees a LOT of traffic), but the vet’s office is a great place to advertise, thanks again.

I just finished talking with an assistant at the Vet’s and they’re saying it would be best to keep the kittens/mother together until at least 12 weeks, which is one more whole month. It’s only worrisome because we’re only permitted one cat in the new apartment, and I guess as long as they behave we might be able to hide the extra three, it’s just stressful to have to hide something like that. I may also have to ask for some sort of adoption fee or find a way to decrease the cost because I’m not sure if we can afford to vaccinate and get check ups for all 4 cats at once, though I suppose we’ll have to try. It’ll be doubly important to arrange homes for them now considering I can’t see us being able to hide them for more than a month. :/

Tobert, I understand your concerns, but take it from me, I have lived in many places that had a limit and I never seem to be able to stay under that number. I think you should be fine at least until the kittens are old enough to find forever homes.

    And Welcome to TDK~!

Hi Tobert, welcome to TDK :o) You might ask around some shelters, you may find one who’s willing to pay for the shots while you foster the kittens til they’re 12 weeks (unofficially of course!!) Good luck, keep us posted.

Thanks everyone. I really wish I could keep more than one, but I suppose right now it’s best if we just stick to having just one. I’ll try calling up the cat coalition that’s around here and hopefully they can help me financially, or point me to someone who can.

Hopefully they will get adopted. But I have been hiding 3 cats for over a year, and did it 7 years ago also.

Well I suppose when all three kittens are litter-trained (at least better than they are currently) I won’t mind too much, as well, when the fleas are dealt with…

I’m sorry to hear that you lost a pet…and we just moved here so I’m still without a job, so I can understand the importance of conserving money…but since the kittens won’t be ready to leave until the end of November…if you change your mind, or even want to meet them, that would be fine. 🙂

Both kittens now have an arranged forever home! The lady came over and talked with us for awhile and met the kittens and decided she’d like to take both; she also agreed to reimburse us for their first vet exam/vaccinations when she comes to pick them up at our agreed upon time (on the 30th, when the kittens are eight weeks). I voiced my opinion and the vet’s recommendation but the woman seemed like a competent enough pet owner who has has experience with cats in the past. So I’m happy for the two kitties. My only worry now is if Darla (the kitten we’re keeping) or even the mother (who we might also be keeping), will be freaked out or get depressed when the kitties leave us. It’ll be eight weeks when they leave and I’ve been trying to separate the mom and kittens from each other for an hour or three every day to encourage independence, but I’ve just never been in this situation before! Hopefully the mom and baby will be fine though. Oh, and apparently the mom is a maine coon, lol.
