Pounce on Diesel…..a trip to the vet is a good idea for any new kitty or anyone who is experiencing difficulties. He’s certainly a cutie and I hope you figure out what he’s talking about.
Mr. Diesel is adorable. Agree with a vet visit. You might also want to join TDK and open thread and post questions. We’re not vets but a lot of TDKers have experience raisig kittehs.
“Doesn’t use the litterbox” could mean a couple of things:
– He is holding everything in (very bad, needs the vet).
– He is dirtying up in other places (needs training to use the box).
Good luck with him!

He’s a cutie! Try putting him in the box and show him what to do with his paws by ” scraping ” them.
Also try a different litter. Good luck.
The reason the little kitty is not using its litter box is because he is being allowed to roam free. It is vital that little kittens be kept in a single room without carpets, rugs, bedding or upholstered chairs, so that they don’t piddle on fabric items. Use a box that’s easy to climb in and out of, and use an unscented litter.
Stay away from clay clumping as the clumping chemical is dangerous for any cat. I use Okocat Natural Clumping litter, for adults and kittens alike. Once kitty is confined in this way for around 2 weeks, he will use litter every time when he is let out.
You can go in and play and cuddle, but confinement is the key to litter success when they are this young. Too many people wonder why their cute kitten is peeing on their bed, when they have not understood that a kitten will just go where it’s comfy and absorbent, and not go hunting for its litter box.
In any case, most homes are too hazardous to let little kittens roam around unless you can supervise their every waking moment. They can get trapped or injured very easily, and lack depth perception, so falling through railings on upper floor staircases is another hazard.
THERE ARE NO “CLUMPING CHEMICALS” in clumping cat litter. That’s just marketing BS from the manufacturers.
It’s made from clay… and they dry the clay with heat. The firing temperature determines whether or not it clumps. The hotter the temperature, the less it will clump.
Yep, it costs them more to make the non-clumping litter than the clumping kind. Wonder why they charge more for clumping?
They claim it’s special, when it’s not (or that it has “clumping chemicals”). That way they can charge more while costing them less.
I’d be more concerned about added dyes and scents than ‘clumping chemicals’ – some of them are toxic to cats (yet they still add Red 40 to most cat food, even though it causes a lot of cats to throw up at times).
