Please give a warm welcome to today’s Star Kit, Little Key Key. She is a one and a half year old Bombay from Lansing, Michigan.
She was given to me by my daughter’s friend. She was flea infested, severely dehydrated and anemic, with bloody scabs all over her. We took her to the vet and they did an ultrasound and told us she was pregnant with 4 kittens, but 2 weren’t alive. Thankfully we were prepared for that when she delivered. She also said she could tell this wasn’t her first litter. My daughter asked her friend and she said when she was just 6 months old, she had a litter of 6, and they all died. All I could do is cry for this sweet innocent little girl. I can’t imagine how awful her life was. The vet also told us she is a Bombay. I didn’t know what that meant. They need a lot of love and attention, and they’re very vocal. They were bred to look like a mini Black Panther, with a silky shiny coat. Which hers wasn’t because she was so unhealthy, but it is now. She looked so sad and was nearly dead. I gave my all to save her. Medicine, supplements and feeding around the clock. I’ve learned so much, and sooo worth it. I was afraid her little spirit was broken for good, but she has done a complete turn around. She’s happy, healthy and she has so much love to offer. We can see how grateful she is to get a second chance, with love and happiness that she so deserves. She truly is amazing, unique and extremely intelligent. She’s an amazing mom too. She’s very protective and still won’t leave them for more than 3 minutes at a time. They’re already 6 1/2 weeks. I think it’s because of how awful her life was. Surprisingly, she has let me handle her babies from day one, and she’s even picked them up and brought them to me, lol. But I can’t bare the thought of giving her babies to anyone. I don’t ever want to see sadness in her big eyes again. But this is her story and I’m now a cat person.
Tom is the owner of 4 amazing cats, and using the Daily Kitten he provides a place for cat and kitten lovers to share the love for their own cats and kittens.
Pounce!
Little Key Key is a lovely young lady! So sad for her rough early life, but now that she’s with you and has proper care and love, the memory of those times will fade away.
The tongue sticking out shows she has a sense of humor too!
She surely loves you, for all that you’ve done, and continue to do, for her and her babies. Thank you for keeping her family together – now your family too – and for loving her unconditionally. She is a doll, and I’d love to see her babies!
Kisses to you, sweet Key Key!
Little Key Key’s life will be wonderful from now on, because she has you. I’m not sure if you are planning on keeping all the kittens, or what you are thinking. But if you could keep at least one it would be a good companion for her. It is such a special thing to turn someone’s life around as you have done! Happy Valentine’s Day to you and the kitties!
Please give Little Key Key a little kiss from me! What a rough start she had and how awesome you are to have raised her to become the sleek healthy “panther” that we see today! 🙂
What a beautiful ladycat! Thank you for taking care of her and her babies.
Oh my, that was a rough start! My Mr. Peabody is a Bombay and boy is he a personable cat! Enjoy the family, I’m sure they will delight you constantly.
( ooh, kittens! what fun!)
What a horrible story with a beautiful ending (or beginning). My best wishes for your living future. And bless your heart for being so living and patient. U r all rewarded. Xxoo
You deserve all the love and devotion she is giving you; you’re a grand person for giving her back her life. I’m soooo happy for all of you !
Only two of them were born alive. Of course it depends on one’s resources and where one lives, but three cats is not an unreasonable number – and Bombays are usually small.
She is *so* lucky to have found you! She’s a beautiful girl and I’ll bet her kittens are, too. Thanks for giving her and them such love and care.
Miss Little Key Key is a darling girl. Her beginning was very hard but I’m so glad you found each other.
She is stunning. Your love and care show in her face. Hopefully you will consider getting her spayed now, and it would be excellent if your daughter’s friend might have Animal Control pay her a visit to educate her concerning the proper care and treatment of cats, otherwise that horror show will just continue.
You are so wonderful to her. Enjoy her and her babies. I have been in a situation similar to yours and the attachment to those babies is strong. I just had to send one of those babies over Rainbow Bridge. It broke my heart. Give them loving every day and they will send it back to you 10 fold.
A sad story with a very happy ending! Thank you for sharing her with us. I hope Key Key and her kittens will be part of your family for many years. Be excellent to each other.

Everything about her picture just shouts “I’m a happy, loving kitty!”
We have one (found in our back yard at about 10 days old) that looks just like her, even to her expressions. I’m glad you rescued her, and she deserves the best. May you have many years of purrs and play (and snuggles) with your fur babies!
I would like to add that the suggestion for calling animal control on the neighbor is NOT good – all they’ll do is punish the neighbor instead of educate (and we don’t know the whole story – it may have been outside of their control). We have had decades of problems with people dropping off pregnant females on our property (even though we’re poor and live in a poor neighborhood) and the “Authorities” are far quicker to punish you even though you might have just rescued the poor kitty and need help (been there). We have too many cats now because of dropoffs (and have another to find a home for) – and before anyone starts a**chewing on me, all of OUR kitties are fixed and are in the process of getting their shots right now. Let’s save the punishment for the people who drop off animals and/or deliberately abuse them, OK?
