I would like you all to meet and give a big paws up to todays Star Kit, Amelia. She is a 14 week old Tortoiseshell/American Domestic Shorthair
from Orlando, FL, USA.
Amelia found me. I went to the shelter in the hopes of adopting a male, black kitten and one of the volunteers handed Amelia to me. I held her and she was very nice, but not what I’d come for. I put her down so the volunteer could put her back in her cage and she leapt from the volunteer and into the tiny cat carrier I had brought with me. She curled up in a circle, looked straight at me, and meowed as if to say, “Let’s go!”
She’s since become quite a well travelled kitten, and she loves her cat carriers, although she grew out of that first one. She is very spoiled and has lots of toys but her favorite things are the caps to seltzer water bottles. She will sneak in and steal the cap from under your hand and run full speed away with it if you are not vigilant. If the cap is on the bottle, she will attempt to remove it with her (budding) teeth. True to the reputation for tortie cats, she is very smart.
Tom is the owner of 4 amazing cats, and using the Daily Kitten he provides a place for cat and kitten lovers to share the love for their own cats and kittens.
POUNCE puddy tat the Star-kit on Wootsday!
Sounds like she REALLY wanted to be your furbaby! I love it, jumping into your carrier! I hope you have many fun-filled, adventurous years with your beautiful tortie!
She may not be male, but she is pretty darned black! Just a few flicks of colour. Splendid kitten.
There isn’t really a lot of difference between male and female cats, though I do find males tend to be a little easier going. Her “nasty operation” will cause more, as it is internal surgery, but it is essential to neuter cats of either sex.
She’s a beauty. And you gotta love that take charge attitude! She sounds like a force to be reckoned with.
Hi Amelia, good for you, picking out your new meomy like that. I love your markings. Beautiful kitty.
Enjoy your tortie. As you have found out … they are very smart. And usually they pick one person to be their faithful friend to the end. She is a doll. All of mine have been very talkative. One particular … Kitty … was a one person, intelligent, spoiled rotten, beautiful … but mean as a snake if she wanted to be … angel. They know what they want and there is no changing their minds. I wish you many, many happy kitty years with Amelia.
Fortunately when we don’t know what’s best for us, the cats do.
Miss Amelia is adorable! Sounds like she has demonstrated the legendary tortitude straightaway by jumping into your carrier and in effect adopting you! Love her coloring, very black with just a lick of delicious caramel! Enjoy being owned by this pretty little Miss! 🙂
