pounce!
glad to hear he was well taken care of! somebody’s pet I hope.
am also tickled that an Israelie kitteh is almost a twin to Molly!
pretty tiger kitty! I’m sorry this little sweetie pie doesn’t have a home, but it sounds like visitors are doing their best to care for him/her. 🙂
It sounds like Masada is everyone’s kitty! Please look after him. Lots o snuggles!
Paulajeanne, I don’t get the impression that he belongs to an individual, unless it is to one or more of the site guardians and guides. I have seen similar cat colonies elsewhere in the Mediterranean – cats well-fed and well cared for, and friendlier than ferals.
Felis Catus is indigenous to the region – probably developed from a desert cat indigenous to what is now Libya and of course domesticated humans in Egypt. The wikipedia article on “Cat” states that “the earliest direct evidence of cat domestication is a kitten that was buried alongside a human 9,500 years ago in Cyprus”.
Great picture! Masada is quite handsome and looks healthy and content.
That’s certainly a handsome cat–by no means your typical feral.
Shalom you sweet thing!!!
Greetings little Sabra kitty,
From Wikipedia: (Sabra) The allusion is to a tenacious, thorny desert plant with a thick hide that conceals a sweet, softer interior, suggesting that even though the Israeli Sabra are rough and masculine on the outside, they are delicate and sensitive on the inside.
Reference is to an Israeli-born Jew, but I’ve taken the liberty of adapting it to this stunning silvery tabby. Also seems to describe the cat purrsonality in general. You’ve got to be tough to live in this scorching desert mountain region. I know, having climbed Masada twice (okay, once I took the cable car – LOL).
Cats are native desert creatures, that’s why they don’t drink as much water as dogs. He must be the “Town cat” who belongs to everyone.
No one can own him but everyone can care for him.
Sounds like Sabra is king!
Masada is beautiful. Kind of looks like a mountain lion among all of the rocks!

Sabra Masada looks like the essence of Cat, to me!
Oh wow he blends right in! I hope someone is looking after him and he’s not lost!
He’s a beauty! I want to pet him. 🙂
I was at Masada about 10 years ago. There were a bunch of cats up there. I have no idea how they got up there either.
Handsome kitty! Sounds like someone is taking care of a colony there. Thank you for sharing this picture.
What a handsome stripey kit as the Masada Cat the king of the mountain our Star-kit today at TDK!
Masada seems to be saying, “Pat me on the head and you can visit my mountain”.
Masada looks like the king of his mountain. He’s probably very smart and knows the exact right way to ask for treats when he needs them.
Just one of God’s blessings.
Looks a lot like my kitten and very cute indeed!
