My boyfriend and I picked up this little guy for his mom’s birthday. He was about six weeks old when we got him. His eyes were the brightest blue we’d ever seen and his ears were set kind of far apart so we thought he looked like Yoda. He was rather sick the first couple of weeks after she had him home and we weren’t sure he was going to be all right, but now he won’t slow down. He torments her older Siamese, Mushu, to no end. When she took him to the vet for shots, she told her that Yoshi was really a girl. We were kind of upset because we had been assured that Yoshi was a boy. A few weeks later we discovered that the vet had definitely been mistaken, much to our pleasant surprise.

Aww…cute story! I love little Yoshi………Mr. Howdy’s first name was Yoda because his ears laid down on the side of his furry lil head…but then I named him Howdy. He prefers Mr. Howdy when we have company.

He does look like Yoda! But oddly enough, I have always thought that Yoda was kind of cute. Hopefully this little one doesn’t talk like Yoda, though! Our Willow bears an uncanny resemblence to Doby the house elf in the Harry Potter books!

Back in the 70’s when Star Wars first came out (man, 30 years already?!), Jinx, the family cat, was getting on in years and had that old girl face. We called her Yoda for a while, in the most respectful and loving manner as I thought Yoda was kinda cute too!

I really don’t understand why they were upset for him being a ‘her’… female kitties have the sweetest personalities…
Well, my boyfriend’s mom just really wanted a boy because her female cat is very dominant and doesn’t tolerate other female cats well…however, she’s indifferent to boys.
Yes – he does look like Yoda – but a very sweet, fuzzy, and exceptionally cute Yoda!

Me too! The only time I made that mistake was when the kitten was a herm-aphrodite (both male & female) and I’m not a vet!

Yep, Yoshi is from my neck of the woods too. I have a friend who always has meezers, she always does the “Yoda” thing with them too (complete with the Yoda voice).

He doesn’t look like he felt too well in that picture, or maybe he’s just deep in meditation. At any rate, I’m glad he got better and is an active kitty.
He just hated being picked up when he was little…he would cry and cry. Now he’s indifferent. He’s not really a cuddler yet, unless he’s super tired.
Aww. Yoshi is so cute. He does have gorgous blue eyes. Good to hear he has recovered and is now healthy. Looks like he is wanting a smoochie on his adorable little nose.

Perhaps he got sick because he was too young to be taken away from his mama. 6 weeks is not the age most reputable Siamese breeders let a kitten go.
Six weeks is even a little young for a non-pedigreed kitten.
I agree. The lady we got him from had two litters, one was six weeks old and one was eight. She told us he was eight weeks old but the vet said there was no way…we’re assuming she got him mixed up with the other litter. We would have waited had we known.

I got the Kitten War book as a Christmas gift last night! YIPPEEE—
siamese are the most wonderful cats. they are highly intelligent and very vocal. i had a pair of male littermates, nosey and peanut, and they had such different personalities. nosey was very easy going and would love to meet new friends. his brother peanut was standoffish and retreat to a safe haven when someone new came to visit. they had the most loving personalities when they were relaxing and hanging out with me and especially towards each other.
i miss them very much. i wish your friends mom the very best with yoshi and hope they enjoy each others company for many long years.

Definitely! Siamese cats are amazing! I had a professor last semester who had taught his Siamese cats to do backward somersaults!

AWW yoshi is most likely the prettiest cat that roams the earth! Why is it named Yoshi? Did you name it after Yoshi from the dinosaur from Super Mario Brothers from Super Nintendo? If you did, that would be a good name selection. Yoshi is highly eminent for his long tongue and his green skin (except this kitty doesn’t have green skin.)
You are correct, he doesn’t have green skin.
And yes, he’s named after Yoshi from Super Nintendo.
My boyfriend has several younger siblings who all agreed he should be named Yoshi. After all, it sort of goes with her other Siamese’s name, Mushu. She calls Mushu ‘Shu-shu’ and Yoshi ‘Shi-shi’.

I don’t believe I will allow these (well I’ll just skip that word) to drive me from such a wonderful site…I think the best way to deal is for now if I see either tag..I’ll just skip it and go onto someone elses comments..they are not worth our time..and not worth getting upset over…so let them say what they please…No one here will bother reading it…you won’t have your fun…It’s like when a toddler acts up…if you ignore them they settle down or go away..

I’m sorry, but if a breeder can’t tell her liters apart, she is not what I call reputable. AND no reputable breeder will EVER sell kittens before they are 12 wks of age.

I got two Oriental Shorthairs from a lady that breed them, and even though she had too many kittens at the time (her females all had large litters) she was still able to keep track of which kitten was which and wouldn’t let them leave home until between 3 – 4 months of age. There’s not that much difference – other than coat color – between Siamese and Oriental Shorthairs. My two girls even have a lot of Siamese in their breeding as its still allowed in the OC lines.
I also agree that your mother should get another vet. I’ve sexed a few kittens, some of them pretty darn young and I’ve never made a mistake either. And its not like I’m anything like a professional.
