Meet Jake Peavy, named after the San Diego Padres’ pitcher (and this year’s National League CY Young Winner)! We call him Jake for short. Jake is a four month old Snowshoe mix kitten, (or so we think). We got him on September 24, 2007 when he was about two months old.
There are so many reasons why Jake is special. First of all, he is a very sweet kitten, and with those blue eyes of his he can get just about anything! His purr motor goes off often. When he is asleep on the couch, and you go over to pet him, his purr motor will start immediately, vibrating SO loudly. Jake is a lap cat when he wants to be, which makes him all the more sweet. We hope he stays a lap cat all his life, as we love to have his furry body on our laps, purring loudly. Second of all, Jake is very playful. Yes, nearly all kittens are playful, I know. It is so funny though because he has this little crinkle ball, and if you throw it out to him, he’ll just start running around the house with it, doing his own thing! In addition, sometimes he will bring one of the stuffed toy kittens that we have downstairs in his mouth, set it down, then start tackling it! Not that he doesn’t have any real cats to play with, he lives with 3 other cats, Nellie (age 4), Reggie (age 1 1/2), and Nitschke (9 months). He does play with them often, though, as well. Third of all, Jake is special because he has a BIG appetite! Before we got him at the shelter, we had to wait awhile until he was big enough to be adopted out to us. So maybe he just eats a lot because he didn’t get much of it when he was younger (he came in as a stray to the shelter). And the last reason why Jakey is so unique is because of his beautiful coat and eyes! Who could resist those set of blues?
Hope you’ve enjoyed meeting Jake, and that he put a smile on your face today! He puts a smile on our faces everyday.

Pounce…Jake your fabulous!!!
What a gorgeous kitty!
Wow! Amazing eyes!
Very hypnotic. It’s like they’re saying: “you will love me and bring me treats and toys and be my servant”
Pretty blue eyes! Such a proper looking kitty!
OMG! Look at those eyes! He’s stolen my heart. Beautiful markings.
I think Jake is a space alien… Receiving messages with those big ears & hypnotizing earthlings with those big blue eyes.
*nibbles an ear*
My son and I often joke that all cats are aliens, you can tell just by looking at their eyes and watching how they act! My son says their home planet is called “Cat World” (not too imaginative, I know) and it is obviously warmer than Earth, that’s why cats are always wanting to lay in sun patches or any other hot spot.
Jake certainly does have big, blue eyes! He looks soft, too.
MichelleT-can your son give me a mapquest for Cat World..I’m looking for a good vacation spot…
Very unique looking……! Love the pose…
-One cat lover to another
Beautiful eyes, I think I will call you ‘ole blue eyes’
as you seem very regal and in charge!
What’s a snowshoe?
White paws…see he looks like he’s been running through the snow…hard to find much snow in San Diego but for handsome boy I’d find him some…
Of course we enjoyed meeting Jake, thank you for your lovely explanation of him! He looks to have a lovely personality, and check out those gorgeous blue orbs!
Jake is amazing! He has the sweetest expression, yet there is a glint of mischief in those deep blue eyes also! Come to the sharing circle, baby Jake-you need to be snorggled and petted and loved to pieces!
Thank you for sharing Jake with us, he really is spectacular! Such gorgeous markings and fab baby blues. And he has a very sweet expression in that pic, too. Please do give him a nose scritch from me!
just gorgeous. I wouldn’t be able to resist either
I’d love to see a pic of him with a stuffed kitty in his mouth…I wonder if he likes belly rubs…
*rolls Jake over for a good tickle*
purrrr
Beautiful kitty, wonderful story. He and your others will bring you joy for a lifetime!
I’m in love!!
WOW, he is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
He put a smile on my face this morning. What a cutie 🙂 Elizabeth
Oh Jake, what a handsome boy your are!!! Absolutely beautiful eyes!!!
Jake is handsome and has a very unique appearance. Thank you for adopting this sweet boy and giving him a loving home. It was great that you gave us a wonderful description of his personality, I feel like I know him.
I saw his eyes before anything else. Mesmerizing. What a beauty.. and a lovely story to go along with him.
What a gorgeous guy!!! He kind of reminds me of Paul Newman – especially his eyes!
WOW… Jake is gorgeous. We have a little girl baby (Connie May), who could possible be Jake’s sister. She is the sweetest one of the bunch! And I do mean bunch — we’ve got 6 sweeties… yep, all indoors. Which also explains why we don’t put up a Christmas Tree…. 6 kitties + tree = disaster x 100…. ha! ha!…. but we love them so much. Congrats on your Jake. He seems to be a perfect addition to your family… Signed… Jesse James’ Mom (RIP Jesse James)
So sorry to here about Jesse James..but sounds like you have your hands and hearts very full with 6 kitties…they have a way of healing your heart, don’t they?
They absolutely do. Thank goodness.
Signed, Jesse’s Mom AND Holly(wood), Maggie May, Sassy May Bullet-Bob, Penny May & Connie May (THE MAY SISTERS….)
What great names..Maybe they should release a Christmas cd…I bet they have great harmony!!! purrs
Jake is FAB-U-LOUS! As for the six cats and no tree, I have six cats and always put up a tree. Someone on this site reccommended putting citrus under the tree to repel the cats. Well, it worked! Not one kitten up the tree last year. Happy Thursday.
Peace

REALLY? Wow.,.I’ll have to try that…we put stuffed ornaments for all the bottom rows…pick them up daily throughout the house…nice tip! thanks
Interesting, I’ve never heard of that, but if I get brave again anytime soon, I’ll try that. Thanks again! Jesse’s Mom AND Holly(wood), Maggie May, Sassy May Bullet-Bob, Penny May & Connie May (THE MAY SISTERS….)
Hi Jesse James’ Mom –
Jesse was truly special; I can still picture his sweet face. So glad he’s still occupying your heart. You loved him so much in his short life and he will love you forever in return.
Thanks so much for remembering our sweet Jesse James and yes, our hearts are truly full (and our quiver too). Jesse is never far from our thoughts. I feel such a kindred with so many of you here who have lost “family members.” Especially at this time of year. My heart goes out to all who wait to see them again. When I was a child, I remember loosing a helium balloon to the wind and my Mother (God rest her soul), told me that God would keep that balloon for me until I get there myself. I believe now, Jesse James may have custody of my balloon. Sounds crazy I guess, but — OUT OF THE MOUTH’S OF BABES…..

Maybe we’ve been lucky, but we have 7 kittties, and so far 7 kitties + 2 Christmas tress has been no problem. We don’t place any ornaments on the bottom and they are quite content just sleeping under the trees.
I could swim into Jake’s eyes all day long.
What a beauty!
Hi TBm!! YES,he’s a GQ kitty all the way! He oozes “exotic” charm & he knows it! Leverages every last bit of it too. 😉 Jake is blessed to have a wonderful forever home and 3 brothers & sisters to romp with. Happy Thursday everyone.
I, too, thought of Paul Newman AND my father–he has the most beautiful eyes of anyone I’ve met in person. All through high school, my friends would always comment about his eyes after they’d first met him. My mother (and her high school friends) dubbed them ‘Bedroom Eyes’. Other girl kitties better watch out! 🙂
Jake is gorgeous…And those beautiful Blues. I wonder if he somehow got to San Diego from here. He’s a duplicate of my feral Snowshoe Siameezer I’ve been trying to catch for over 2 years. An Identical image. The eyes are hypnotizing. :ooh:
Jake is very exotic! What beautiful blue eyes and such a handcome boy!
He’s a very handsome fellow! I love that pink nose and blue eyes!..
I can almost hear that purr.. 🙂
JoanfromNewJersey- How is your day…better than yesterday I hope…1 look into Jakes eyes should do the trick!
Hi 2b – Thank you so much for thinking of me! I’m so glad to meet Jake, so full of life and love. Just got back from a family funeral, and Jake put a smile on my face. I think things will be getting better from here. Between the cute kitties and awsome cyber friends like you, I can’t go wrong!
Oh I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize it was that bad of a day…purrs & headbonks
Thanks, 2b. I’m a glass-is-half-full kinda gal, so I’m trying to stay upbeat. As you know, when it rains, it pours (I hate cliches!). I am also prone to the blues around now. That is why I like it here so much. How can you not smile when you see a cute kitty or chat with such great friends. Here I can have both!
Awww 2b, I just gazed at Mr. Bug – what a handsome guy! He looks so much like my sister’s cat PJ. Maybe they’re checking each other out at The Rainbow Bridge.
RIP Mr. Bug; go find PJ – he will play with you.
Thank you Joan…I loved him soooo much..he was so special…Toughest guy I’ve ever known..I’m sure he’s playing with PJ…maybe they went fishing…
Jake is so handsome, one understands why the Egyptians worshipped cats
What a sweet and intelligent look on Jake’s precious face! How ’bout them baby blues?! I am so glad you are giving this baby a loving home. You are both making each other’s lives so happy and complete! May the Lord bless you and this handsome boy always. 🙂
I know cats don’t like the citrus smell, but do you put actual lemons/grapefruits under the tree? I have a problem each year with Patches.
squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
pretty cat
That is one stunning looking cat! Even Paul Newman can’t compete with those beautiful blue eyes.
Paul Newman – drool…
Jake …drool…hehehehe…I’ll take one of each please!

Thanks so much for all of your kind comments about Jake! We are so happy that he is Daily Kitten today! We are glad all of you enjoyed him, and his set of baby blues! He says “Hi”, or rather, “Meow!”
Merry Christmas to you and Jake (Mr. Blue Eyes….you could have called him Frank!!!) But he is a handsome kitty. Thanks for adopting him.
What a beautiful young man! Another model incognito.
Cats and Christmas trees. Cat Fancy magazine had the best idea and it worked for me. Put the tree up and leave it bare for about two weeks. Then decorate. When there was nothing to play with, my cats treated it like it wasn’t even there. I do put a row of crystal beads draped on the bottom branches because they like to hear the noise and also like walking under it and pulling off the garland with their tails. It’s far better than tipping over my 7 foot tree like they used to do!!!
