Mornin’/Afternoon all. There was a comment left yesterday that I think some of you might be able to help with – it’s about helping out a feral cat with young kittens.
And the Kittenmaster is first 🙂
I saw her post and was going to repost it here, but I guess I don’t have to now. Thanks Kittenmaster, and I hope you have a very plesant afternoon and evening
Thank you Kittenmaster for reposting that. I hope someone can help! In the meantime, DIBS on the one on the right, Belle! Truly a dinger of a kitten 🙂
Dibs on the tortie!
Oops, sorry, I misread the one you wanted. How ’bout we share?
Sure thing…my mom told me to share the toys and not throw sand in the sandbox. Lemme have one last snorgle and I’ll pass her over 🙂
Sorry ladies, the tortie is mine, she will match my Sally Girl perfectly. I have a soft spot for calico’s and torties and am afraid I must keep this little gem for myself.
Hey, you already have one! Please can we share her–I have a Calico but love torties too.
That’s the problem with this world, too many greedy people. So I will be happy to share little Belle with you. Isn’t she adorable. I couldn’t help myself, I just fell in love with that face. And two of the other grays have a little color on them as well.
Okay you can call share Belle but I want the little dilute tortie far left Hailey. That bcute little cream paw and blaze is to die for.
Now this is what I call fluffy conversation – lighthearted “arguing” over the cute kitties!
…thud…thud…thud…thud…thud…
Don’t make me come down there with the wack-bonk stick…..
I grew up with torties in the family, so I’m pretty partial to them. As long as I can share in the cuddling, I’ll be happy.
If you don’t get that kitten on the right, I’d love to have her! Ever since I lost my two torties (old age) I miss them…
Hi KM and all
I’ve just done an online search for ‘cat rescue’ in ‘Kuala Lumpur’ . I think this organisation may be able to answer the queries about the feral cat. Good luck.
http://www.spca.org.my/
My story is similar: I fed a feral from Dec to Apr. At the time I did not know about TNR, and she had 5 kittens. I contined to feed all of them (luckily they liked the dry food I gave them). I fed closer and closer to the house, until after a point they would come into the house. It took about 4 months to socialize the kittens, at which point I had them neutered, took them into the house for good and now they are totally indoor cats.
The mom, on the other hand, would not let me near enough to even touch her, even after two years of feeding her. I had to trap her to get her neutered. She sleeps in the garage now, she waits at the door nearly every day to be fed, but she keeps her distance when I come out.
You should hve no problem taking in the kittens if thats your plan but I would not hold out too much hope for the mom.
Frank
This is in response to the questions about ferals yesterday… I’ve done a lot of feral spay/neuter clinics- the best time to take the mom in to get her fixed is when you can get her in a trap. Most vets can have the surgery done and the mom recovered enough to nurse her kittens within 12-15hrs. The kittens will be ok during this time. A trap would be best to catch her in, so no one gets chewed on when they try to sedate her. To make her friendly with you- it takes a lot of time and a lot of her associating you with food and other good things. You’ll probably want to take the kittens from her once they are eating solid food so they don’t learn too many bad feral cat behaviors from mom. Hope that helps!
Dear LWY/KL,
I don’t have any advice for you, just a warm welcome and blessing you for helping those cats.
LWY – There are some responses under yesterdays original post.
–LWY/KL–
About your post yesterday…
Whatever happens, don’t let the kittens get free. Mama will move them & odds are, you’ll never catch them again. Check into the rescue organizations in your area & see if they can help you with an animal-safe trap. You’ll also have to get pointers on how to be a kitten mommy, because you’ll have to feed them. If you can,put the kittens in a see-thru cage so mama can see they’re okay. Try & set the trap up against the cage so mama has to go into it in order to get to her babies. Hopefully,it will be long enuf so she trips the trap before she can turn & run. Be sure & cover cage & trap to camoflage it. Like others have said here on TDK, chicken works great. Just mix it w/some of the raw stuff she’s used to.
**Best of Luck to you**
**Oh,& Welcome to TDK
such cute kittens.
Can’t believe I got in so quickly!
*puts Hailey under jacket*
*sneaks away*
Sorry I know very little about feral cats 🙁
*Put checkmark on clipboard next to Hailey’s name*
Now remember, you can check her out for up to two hours but then she has to come back so everyone else can have a turn.
2 hours sounds fair! Maybe there will be some wonderful food to share by that time.
thanks Instinct for taking care of the paperwork
🙂
Hey! That’s a cool idea!
Could I have a bit more time? living in Europe and all??
please….
If you’re keeping track, Instinct, put a check by Rose’s name for me.
I think it’s great that we are having multiples. All that much more to love and pass around. (Or pass out…thud…whichever comes first.)
Now, now, share the kittens. These are a cute group. It is good that they were taken in so quickly and came out healthy. Lot’s of cuddles for them.
UMMMMMMMMMM Hey thats not fair……..I wanted Hailey 🙁
You can have her now Brani Lee. Remember, two hours and then on to the next person 🙂
b r a n d i say it wit me 🙂
Brrrraaaaannnnndiiiiii
You crack me up Instinct :))
Is this week’s theme Kitten Clumps? If so, let’s break out the protective gear.
I’m suggesting that we have a floor that’s made of airbag or maybe some really bouncy rubber. We’ll need it!
Hi, Kittenmaster!
Hi, Alex!
Bad idea with all the drinking that goes on around here 🙂
bouncy floor + hyperactive drunks = trouble
ok, maybe we should cover walls with rubber also
🙂
Isn’t that called a bouncing castle?
I love them!
😀
Sounds more like a padded cell aka One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest!
hey wait padded cell’s. Okay but can’t be any shade of pink. Plus I request a lazer pointer and a few cute kitties too. It will be so much fun watching them climb up the walks. The padded walls will lend tracksion as well as claw holds.
We’d definitely need to make it fireproof!
Aww…soo cute…multiple kitties…
Thud-
boing-ong-oing-oing-oing!
Whee, this is fun!
Girl Gang! How sweet! I see Rose has that neck-craning thing goin’ on! kt
one of these cat’s is not like the others. ooohh…so cute.
What a lovely bunch of girls! Boxes of kittens a theme this week maybe?
🙂
Must be family week at TDK. This is the third litter of gorgeous kittens. And all girls! I want them all.
Oh goodness another box o’ cuteness. I don’t know if I can handle this!
*thud*
*Trying to rush to help Liz, but is becoming overcome herself by the incredible cuteness of another box of mischief*
Oh no – everything is going dark… Where’s my airbag…?
*THUD*
Dang it, where is Johnny Gauge when you need him (and if you don’t know who he is then that just means I’m too old)
*runs over to Rubia and liz with pillows, coffee and Chocolate Mousse pie*
I may have to pass out if Johnny Gauge comes to the rescue. I’m definitely feeling faint….need mouth to mouth!
I know who Johnny Gauge is but I misread it and thought you said Johnny Quest! lol forgive me, I am ill. I think someone stole your whack-bonk stick and beat me with it, this week, in the head and knees.
Oh Renee!!!
*shoves big sis an armful of kittens*
Here… fuzz cures all!
🙂
I remember Jonny Gage – I watched Emergency! all the time. Let’s see, Chet, Capt., Dr. Bracket – can’t remember the other responder’s name. Interesting how it is not re-running like many other shows of the 70’s.
Hi Pipa’s mum!
How’s my little sis? Sorry I haven’t talked to you in awhile. I missed our little chats. I have been really sick for the past week. How are your kitties?
I see your little brother hasn’t sold you off yet! 🙂
Awww Renee!!
🙁
So sorry to hear you’ve been sick!
My mail: marinaminas at gmail dot com
Write to me if you need anything at all…
I take adopting a big sis very seriously!!!
*huge gug*
Missed you!!!
Hi Pipa’s mum,
I started off with an excruciating headache, queasy stomach. I felt like I had been beat up with a whack-bonk stick. I finally got to eat something of a regular meal, Sunday. Saturday, I ate some grapes for breakfast. They were so good, I just wanted to keep eating them but they shoot my blood sugar up. Diabetis makes any little infection, harder to fight. I was so weak, I could hardly walk. Now, I have a dry cough. Have any cures for a cough? I have tried cough syrup, cough drops and gargling but when it gets tickled, I go into a coughing frenzy. Sorry to be such a drag.
Awwwwww!!!
Sweetie!
Darn being so far away!
Can you have honey? Or is this not allowed because of diabetis? Because three dolops of honey in a glass mixed with the juice of one lemon cures a cough in seconds!
And buy the face masks you can keep in the freezer for the headaches… they soothe a lot and it doesn’t upst you stomach…
And don’t make me mad saying you are a drag!!! You don’t want to make your Spanish sibling mad…
I’ll start shouting, talking Spanish very fast and wagging my arms above my head ferociously!!!
I care!!
Yes, Pipa’s mum, I have used cold packs for headaches. It felt good when I would be hot. I think I ended up with a bad sinus infection. I had forgot about the honey-lemon cure. We have that here too. You left me with a funny vision in my head. You speaking spanish really fast ( go ahead, I wouldn’t understand you) and waving your arms in the air! I’m not used to telling anyone about my problems. I didn’t want to to be a bit of a downer, on today’s kitten. I love honey but it is quite sweet for my diabetis. I sometimes eat a little honey, for I love it on hot rolls or homemade biscuits. I just don’t over do it, except when my blood sugar drops!
Pipa’s mum(Marina),
Thanks for your address, may take you up on it sometime. Will try to catch you tomorrow. Have a nice evening.
Ooo and Engine 51! Wasn’t that it? I remember that show, it started a life long fantacy about firemen….*sigh*
Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days-I’ve been soo busy, that’s the way it is here-feast or famine! Anyway, I have news!! My honey got a puppy! Small looks very beagle in the face, is sable and white and chews on everything!! My boys are in a quandry as to what to do. After living in the country they associate dog smell with danger, now this little bit of thing is here and they seem to reconcile their memories with this playful reality. Bug will watch her from a high point for hours. She’s very young, less than the 8 weeks I was told, I think. We named her “Muttstang Sally”
I just saw Randolph Mantooth on a soap I caught last week. I don’t remember witch one as I really don’t watch them anymore. I took a few days off and just happened to catch him. He still looks good for his age and it’s nice to see him working again.
I can’t remember Kevin Tigue’s character anymore either.
Instinct I am probably old enough to be your mother and I don’t know who the heck is Johnny Gauge. Please inform the rest of us who he is.
The kittens today just melted my heart.
He’s from the 70’s tv show “Emergency!” A hearthrob. He and his buddies from engine 51 fire dept. responded to a new situation every week. They just don’t make ’em like that anymore. I recently saw a picture of Randolph Mantooth and he is still quite handsome.
I am wondering why Randolph Mantooth hasn’t gotten a lot of work. He was really cute, and the show was so popular. He co-stars have gotten a lot of exposure. I believe his partner on the show was recently on “Lost”, as Locke’s father.
Too bad, I would have liked to have seen more of the Mantooth!
Hey Kate the Grate –
I was wondering where I had seen him recently! He played a bad-a** guy. Randolph Mantooth, I believe, did some soap work for a while; that’s the last I heard about him. Like you said, too bad – he’s one handsome fella!
Negative on that Susan. Not unless you graduated from high school in the 50’s 😀
No, I graduated from HS in ’67 I turned 17 in March and graduated in May.
actually, Instinct, it was Johnny Gage and Roy Desoto, with Dr. Brackett & Dixie McCall as the Doc & nurse, can’t remember Bobby Troupe’s character, but he sang “Route 66”.
knew I spelled it wrong , dang it 🙂
And they were always able to do a trachiotomy with a ball point pen ;D
Roy Desoto!!! Thank you Thomas, for jogging my memory!
More like CLOGGING my memory! tee hee (You know I love you, Thomas!)
OMG I had such a crush on Johny………and cpt kirk LOL
I still like William Shatner…
Do you watch him on Boston Legal?
Nah – never got into that one, although I hear it is a great show. My crush was with Capt. Kirk. He has the same b-day as me.
Quickly passes out the Cute Overload Airbags for the rest of the group and puts pillows down for Liz and Rubia.
Waves chocolate croissants under their noses to bring them around
Thank God I got the patent on time!
*kichingggg*
oh thank goodness. chocolate and fuzz cures all!
Mmmmmm… *sits up at the delicious smell of chocolate* Coffee, chocolate mousse pie AND chocolate croissants! Feeling much better now!
And – of course – 5 sweet little furballs! 😀
Chocolate! Mousse pie and croissants??
*rockets in from the bouncy room, to land neatly in the sharing circle*
Gorgeous smokey babies!
As for coaxing a feral cat, chicken is the best.
Definitely! Roasted chicken seems to work well, no spices, no salt, just plain roasted chicken, cut up into small pieces (for kittens).
just read the note under the kittahs. i have alway hated the drop box thing. definitely think they are a horrible idea.cant someone do a night shift at a shelter. arrgh. o.k stepping of of my soap box.for now.l
I suppose it is better than leaving them on the side of the road to fend for themselves. This person probably wasn’t able to take care of them by themselves so they took them to the shelter. I think I would have to do that as well. I could never foster because I would just keep them all. That is how I got my fuzzbutts.
It’s not an ideal situation, but it beats the heck out of throwing the kittens onto the shoulder or median of the highway from a pickup truck, traveling at highway speeds.
(Yes, that happened here recently; click my name for the story.
These gals are adorable – can just imagine what kind of havoc they’d create with my 4 boys! In fact, these 5 look kinda like my first cat, Stupid, who had apparently not gotten her 8th-week lessons from her mom…
Heh, poor Maaj would probably end up taking all of them under wing, as the senior papa-type cat. And trudge around looking soo serious & tired even more – with kittens hanging off of him left & right.
Good point! That’s our Maaj…
Pretty, pretty princesses!
There must be some Russian Blue in the mix!! They look (well most of them at least) like my Bog-butt, who is a Russian Blue!!!
And the unique one is SO SO SO cute.
Good afternoon KM
Good morning to all
Hi Alex
Hugs to everyone!!!
THUD!!!!
MEDIC!!!
you seem really busy Instinct. I will help Tinafish, afterall I have my first aid badge from girl scouts.
*now where did I put my girl scout manual*
Lifts head, opens one eye, Mui’s first aid kit has chocolate….Ami, is that you? Instinct, was that you? OOOHHHH, that passel of kits, starts to swoon again, I need smelling salts, I am southern afterall, THUD
smelling salts it is.
*holds under Tinafish nose*
are you better now?
*puts Hailey back into box*
Ok now I can get some cranberry scones & mocha coffee.
*helps Tinafish sit up*
Thank you Sunshine’s Ami, I am feeling much better now!
*rushes to see what all that noise was*
*sees a box full of beautiful fluffy kittens*
THUDDD!!!!!
*quickly places miu in Thud proof bouncy castle*
(she’s going to looove this 😉 )
Wow, a castle!!!! But HEY! No chocolate… AND WHERE ARE THE KITTENS??? 😈
Now, the bouncy *thud* room has left me with quite a vision! Everyone is in the thud safe room and if the kittens are in there too, hmm. I see, everyone bouncing up and down, not able to get their footing, kittens bouncing up and down also, so everyone is trying to grab ahold of one another. lol and catch kittens.
*gasp!*
*shoves kitties to miu*
*sloowly backs away*
*throws chocolate from safe distance*
ROWRRRR!!!
…
🙂 Thanks! All work and no kittens makes miu a dull – no, raging – girl.
Instinct, it’s so good of you to help out! 🙂
I think this site should start selling bumper stickers, like “Will faint for kittens.”
–Catherine in Waco–
You better get a patent on that idea fast before someone steals it from you.
Jasmine looks so much like my Bailey (Baby Girl)! Can we make the box bigger so I can crawl in and give them some lovins?
–Fonda-Honda–
That’s what I used to do a few weeks back when Runt’s litter was smaller. Because I’m so small,I’d climb right into the 4ftx4ft cage,to spend quality time w/them. They loved it & had me laughing out loud. 😆
Morning all, these box o’ kittens are sure getting cute.
Hope that everyone has a wonderful day, trying to do things here before it gets way too hot to function. Its 7:22 a.m. and already 85 degrees with more to come.
Remember to Keep It Fluffy ;D
Oops! I meant Belle (if that’s the calico one) 😉
She’s my favorite favorite, lookit the contrast on her wee face! Kiss it! Kiss it!
Hello TDKr’s –
What a georgous bunch of beautiful kittens we have today! Think I will do the same as yesterday; *THUD* among them (don’t worry, I won’t land on any of them).
*snuggles with the girls* Um, can the sharing circle come this way? I don’t think I can or want to move from here. I have fresh bagels today (chocolate too – I always have chocolate!) and lots of kitty treats for these baby beauty queens.
I brought omlette makings. Fresh-cooked or smoked salmon in yours?
Oooh, smoked salmon sounds very interesting – I’ll try some! Now, how to keep kitties away from the salmon, therein lies the game…
AWWWW….. I love them…they look good and you did a great job.
Lovely box o kittehs! Morning Kittenmaster, thanks for the link. For the ML poster: Wow! You’ve rescued the family. Try and see if your granfather can give you some of the food he used, and mix it with the cat food, mostly animal parts, a little cat food, and gradually increase the amount of cat food, daily, until it’s a mixture you are comfortable with. Offer plenty of water also. The kittens need to keep nursing for several more weeks. When they are about 4-6 weeks old, introduce moistened cat food for them. They may ignore it, until mama tries it. Mama cat can be fixed after all kittens are eating food and drinking water, and appear not to be nursing much. When she stops nursing she goes into heat, and will breed, so you need to pay attention to how much the kittens appear to be eating, and when they aren’t nursing much, and are eating and drinking, that’s the time to take mama to the vet. I know you will be a great caregiver.
That should have been KL Poster, and it is your father-in-law, not your grandfather. Sorry. It’s too early for my memory to work well…
If you place a small bit of milk in a tiny saucer (like a demitasse saucer and dip their little chins a bit, they will learn to lap milk a bit sooner and you can stop bottle feeding. Carefully, now so no milk gets up the noses.
Good morning TDK’rs and Good Day Kittenmaster!
Hope everyone is doing well. Kittyman seems to be doing better, I only heard him sneeze a couple times last night and his spirits seem to be back to normal, he’s back to being his chatterbox self! I’m hoping and praying for a full recovery and no tumors. My vet told me to keep a close eye on him and if symptoms return, I’ll have to get his nasal passages x-rayed. Keep all your toes and fingers crossed for him please!!!
This morning I made cranberry scones and serving them up with mocha coffee….help yourselves, there’s plenty!!!
Good news on Kittyman. I hope he makes a complete recovery.
Pass me a scone. Got any Devonshire clotted cream to go with?
Thank you ppearson!! I brought extra cream just for you!!
Cool, so glad to hear that 🙂
So glad to hear about Kittyman. Congratulations, and I hope his nasal worries are a thing of the past!
I am rooting for handsome Kittyman. May he recover soon and totally! 🙂
Pass the scones and coffee, please!
I’m so glad for Kittyman. I hope his recovery will soon be complete. He sounds like he is well on his way!
Great news! Fingers crossed and good thoughts for a full recovery and no cancer or anything nasty like that.
My fingers and toes are crossed for Kittyman & I’m wishing him good health.
YAY Kittyman! Stay on the road to recovery. So happy to hear he is feeling better. fingers and toes crossed and sending healing thoughts your way.
Purrs and prayers for Kittyman–he’s going to be OK!
Purrs from Redford, Mitzi and me for Kittyman!
I’m glad Kittyman is doing better. Bless his heart.
Happy to hear Kittyman is doing so much better. I will keep everything crossed that his condition is nothing more than the infection the meds helped.
Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone! I truly believe that everyone’s positive energy and prayers are putting my Kittyman on the road to recovery! Thank you again my TDK family!!
Way to go Kittyman!
–Great news LeeAnne–
Great news that Kittyman is feeling better! What a brave boy, what with the nosedrops and everything! Lots of purrs and headbonks from me and Tikka! 🙂
OH! and I want me a box-o-girls just like that! Absolute, over the top, overload of cuteness this morning………*THUD*
*sends over Instinct clone from weeks ago to help LeeAnne*
Clone: Sorry, Steve, that legs gonna have to come off
Instinct: NO!!! Go, go, go! Here, have some pizza!
*puts pillow under LeeAnnes head*
Oh Instinct… I think you need a rest…
Here have some coffee
🙂
now, now… you can’t help everybody all the time…
Instinct…..our hero………..
Hello TDK Family.
Another group of pretty kitties. How gorgeous they are. They just beg to be held and loved on.
I’m a little subdued today. I heard some sad news yesterday (nothing to do with cats – lol) so I’m trying to digest it. Take care everyone!
xoxoxo
Huddy’s Mama

Sorry about the sad news. Hope something else more pleasant comes along soon to help distract you from your sorrow.
Huddy’s Mama, I was watching the news this morning and thought of you…..I thought you would be subdued. I am thinking about you.

***{{{Hugs to HM}}}***
I hope all works out for you.
Sending hugs and warm thoughts to get you through.
Oh Huddy’s Mama, I’m sorry to hear you are down today. Hugs and purrs to you and yours. Chin up, there is always tomorrow!
What a caboodle!
bring all your kittens that need a bottle to my house, Vampira and I can help she will feed any body just get in line. I have bottles from 6 o/z to 1/2 gallon, when your hungry your hungry. We love them all.
EXCELLENT NEWS!!!
By the time I was done, I was exhausted and dripping with sweat. But Mama kitty and all 4 of her kittens were successfully trapped with minimal trauma and conflict this morning; they’ve been given a spare upstairs bedroom for living quarters. This was accomplished with getting up very, very early, keeping them hungry from last night, copious quantities of roasted chicken, a huge clean kennel to trap and move them all, unsuspecting, and hurried installation of a reinforced screen door on a spare bedroom for ventilation and protection from other kitties in the house.
It may be just in time, too; the runt of the litter isn’t looking great. When all of the other kittens and Mama kitty came out of the carrier to explore, the littlest black kitten stayed behind and seemed sleepy, more than scared. I had to pick her up and bring her out of the kennel before she’d start walking around. She is noticeably smaller and thinner than the other kittens, but made her way to Mama’s side and proceeded to snooze there.
For the wee one, I will stop and get baby food and a can of KMR on my way home tonight, and see if I can get her interested in eating more. I’ll also begin observations, to see if the kitten is still nursing.
Tonight I’ll also release the other two kitties waiting upstairs, back to their outdoor environment. They’ll both undoubtedly be a lot happier, if a trifle confused and out-of-date from spending nearly 6 weeks indoors. Hopefully all 3 outdoor kitties will be able to get along with a minimum of conflict (though I can’t count on it).
Now I can cut back the shrubs north and west of the house, in order to get the house ready for power-washing and painting later this week and next week – without worrying about Mama kitty and the kittens spontaneously relocating!
All in all, I’d much rather deal with the small sense of loss I feel at depriving Mama kitty and her kittens of their stimulation-rich outdoor environment, by knowing that I’ll be able to find them all good homes. I’ll also never see them lying motionless in the road, like their unfortunate sibling; that is some consolation.
As soon as I’m able to take additional photos, I’ll post them either on Catster or possibly Photobucket; will let y’all know as soon as I do.
So glad to hear the good news, anncetera. You do wonderful things and we send you kudos!
BRAVO! I knew you’d be successful! I’m sure I speak for us all when I say we are sooo proud of you and all that you do.
I don’t have ferels were I live and it warms my heart to know that there are loving and caring people like you in this world.
Bless you for being so kind to our fuzzy friends. Congrats on capturing the family.
What wonderful news! Hip Hip Horrayyyyyyyyy!! What an angel you are……
Anncetera – WONDERFUL news. You did good, very very very good. I’m so happy for you, the rescued babies, and tiny little mama cat.
What an adventure for you – you must be exhausted, and you still have to go put in a long day at work. Hope you can now look forward to getting some long awaited sleeping in.
You are incredible Annecetera!
Wonderful news for us. I love happy endings.
Wonderful news! The whole family is safe now! Hope they all get good – no, great – homes!
Don’t worry too much about them losing the stimuli and experiences of the great outdoors. Their new families can provide other kinds of pastimes in a safer environment. And there are ways to let them taste the wild life without risking their lives.
Kudos to you!
You did it! You did it you did it you did it you did it!!!!
What wonderful news and what a caring person you are to go to so much trouble to tend to these innocents.
Way to go! So good to hear you’ve managed to save those kitties!
**{Hugs}**
I am so happy and proud of you!!!!!!!!
Anncetera, Excellent work!!!!!!!! You are awesome and have made my day! I am smiling big knowing that mama kitty and babies are safe and sending you good thoughts in the health of the littlest kitten. Hopefully some bottlefeeding will get her back on track. It will also socialize her even more.
Yay, good job!
–anncetera–
Bless you! Your an angel. I knew you’d pull it off. What a fabulous feeling, isn’t it?
**{{Hugs}}**
Thank you all so much! I’m hopeful they’ll have easier lives soon, and perhaps the smallest kitten will thrive, where otherwise she might not have.
Click on my name to see the new default photo for the kittens. I’m hoping I can take decent photos of each kitten tonight, and get them put onto Catster.
Whoo hoo! Great news! Sending lots of positive thoughts!
Congratulations on your success. You are wonderful for the great things you do. Makes me envious, however, we do not seem to have feral cats in my neighborhood. Too many dogs running loose and too my coyotes, too, I think.
Again, Congratulations!!!!!
Congrats on your venture. You are my hero!
Bravo for the brilliant rescue! You are a heroine!
As for the loss of stimuli, I have a formerly feral cat, Ruggles, who was outside for several months as a very young kitten with his mother and two siblings. Right now he is on the coffee table watching “Eight Below” and batting affectionately at my other cat, and both of them are nibbling cat treats.
Ruggles seems to miss the great outdoors the way I miss a case of shingles.
The runt has taken about 10 to 15 ml KMR tonight, and I’ll be administering some more before I go to bed. She’s feeling punky enough that handling her was not much of a problem; only a little bit of squawking. I’m also going to try some baby food, as well, to see if she’ll take that a little better. She doesn’t seem too dehydrated, just definitely not feeling well, unlike the other kittens. Mama groomed her vigorously after I was done feeding her.
The two other altered ferals got the R part of their TNR treatment tonight. Their return to the outdoors was a bit tentative, but they’re re-establishing themselves. The male who was already TNR wasn’t terribly happy about the situation, but also was holding his ground (so far) on the porch.
so much for ferals missing the great outdoors. they know a good thing when they see it. You may have a whole herd of yard cats hanging around before you know it. It I were a feral, I would definately make my way to your house.
I notice they are from the same place as yesterdays brood are you the same foster mommy if so WOW I DON MY HAT TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wonderful thing you are doing headbonks from my 5 year old brown tabby sir lucky t.b. alive {my husbands idea of a joke}
Awww, I want the middle gray one, Heather. She looks like my Pepper.
In fact Pepper is making it hard for me to type right now & biting my hand. I guess she doesn’t want me to cuddle with Heather, so I’ll just admire her from here.
I’d like to have Miss Brooke, thank you very much! (They are all beautiful babies and I’d take any or all of them if I could).
I’d like to see what mama Melody looked like. That one odd one is curious!
Another box of fluffy goodness! I just can’t take it!
These kitties are just beautiful. I just want to snuggle them all, can I start with Brooke? please. I really could use a kitty fix.
I brought some cinnamon rolls, brownies, fresh fruit, sliced ham with some biscuits to the share circle. I brought extra today because I’m ravenous. There’s plenty , so help yourselves.
*gives Brooke*
*keeps Heather*
mmmm I think I’ll start with some warm cinnamon rolls sis!
🙂
Here you go Pipa’s mum, some warm cinnamon rolls.
I guess since you are here, that your brother hasn’t sold you off yet for a chocolate cake? 🙂
AW shucks, lets me and you just have a plate of rolls. I’m hungry. Lack of food all week. Like an old saying goes, Seven days, makes one weak! lol double pun on the word weak(week).
*munching happily on cinnamon roll*
*psssst*
Sis!
I answered you in the post we had above…
I came down here to tell you and feast on your wonderful goodies!
😉
Hi Alex!
Hi Kittenmaster!
What beautiful little ladies we have today 🙂
Guess what everybody? I nabbed 2 of the feral kittens yesterday. TM, my friend, partner and co-worker went out to set the trap after work. Lo and behold there was mom and a couple of kittens. One took off through the little hole in the back of the shed. TM got the net and I walked towards the other one and when it went through the hole she nabbed it. So we put that one in a box and set the trap. We had barely walked away when we saw mom and another kitten by the trap so we waited a few minutes and checked and the kitten was in the trap! So that’s 3 down and 3 to go (kittens, that is). I put those 2 in one of my bathrooms. When I went in to check on them last night all I could see was 2 sets of tiny toes sticking out from under the shower curtain. I’ll let them hide like that for a day or 2 then I’ll take down the curtain so they will have to look at me. I love showing scared kitties that humans can be good 🙂
Congratulations! Good luck getting the other 3 kittens. Hopefully, they will soon become strongly food-motivated, and therefore easier to trap.
More good news for feral kittens! It’s great that there are so many people here that will help those babies and mommas in need. (I would love to foster kittens, but I would get too attached and want to keep them all. And I live in a small apartment with a cat who rules!)
Good for you! You’re wonderful to do this!
Great! All you TNRers do wonders. 🙂 Hope you catch the rest soon.
I bow to you!
Way to go, & may it be easier to catch the last three.
Another success story. From the litter of 6, 2 are in bathroom, 3 still with mom, and I can’t remember where the other one is. Congratulations to you Kittypaw. This seems to be the week of wonderful rescue adventures.
How are you doing since little Danni left for House of Mews? I would imagine you will feel sadness these first days. Hope she finds a wonderful furever home real soon. You, and all foster moms and dads, deserve special hugs from all of us.
I goofed and didn’t take Danni to House of Mews Saturday. She is going tonight and I sure will miss her. But I have 8 more cats to love on. There’s the 1st feral kitten (Twisty, the one who is socialized) in the den, the 2 I caught last night in the hall bathroom, Savannah and Danni in the kitten nursery (used to be my daughters bedroom), my Annie and Juliette in my bedroom and my Socks and Romeo in the livingroom, kitchen and dining room. No-one gets my bathroom! 🙂
–KITTYPAW–
Just wondering….Do you plan to put the 2 w/their sibling?
They’ll probably calm down quicker by finding a familiar scent, especially since the 2 will smell alot like mama still.
I do plan to put them together as soon as I am sure the latest 2 babies are healthy. Twisty is healthy right now. No runny eyes, ringworm, colds or anything and he has a home already. A co-worker of mine is going to take him in a couple of weeks. I am really pleased about this. Her last cat lived to be 19 and it has taken her 2 years to get over his passing. Sounds like a good home for lucky little Twisty.
Kittypaw that is such good news about Twisty. Maybe your co-worker would like to try 2 this time. Just a thought. 🙂
–That is wonderful news KITTYPAW
I know your friend will enjoy having a new fuzzy to play with & keep her company 😀
Full House 😛
–Congrats KITTYPAW–
They’ll love you in no time
Such great news, Kittypaw!
Congrats on a job well done!
Congrats to both Kittypaws and Anncetra.
Congratulations to Kittypaws and Anncetra and welcome to everyone new. Good afternoon KM and hi Alex. How are the babies and Star doing?
tf
I want all of them! I have a huge soft spot for soft grey kitties.
Anncetera & Kittypaws, GREAT JOB to both of you. Your good works will come back ten-fold to you, even if just in your hearts.
I am gonna get fat (or is that fatter, oh who knows) with all these cyber breakfasts, sigh. But at least there are no real calories and lots of nice pictures of breakfast in my head.
Headbonks to all, and remember Keep It Fluffy ;D
Ohhh– another box of kitties! Hooray!! And I really like Instinct’s idea of checking out the kittens for two hours. I am a librarian and can attest to this kind of system working quite well! 😉
Can we do reserves? How about interlibrary loan? This is sounding promising, but then, I’m a librarian, too. 😉
How many librarians are there here, anyway? That’s my background, though now I’m about half-librarian, half-researcher. In school I was sure I was going to be an academic librarian but as it turns out, I ended up in special libraries instead.
Well, this seems to make three so far. I’m at a 9-12 high school, so I’m off for the summer (which I can’t yet seem to wrap my brain around….). I was going to go into museum curatorship. Then, the world (and the need to support myself) intervened…
I’m in academia…wanted to be a 9-12 librarian, but ended up with a BA in English, Lib. Sci. minor. I work in Authority Control in the Cataloging Department of a university.
What a beautiful fanning of cats! They look like little Rockettes!
DORIE IN LI:
Why won’t the shelter that rescued the dogs from the dogfighting ring in Long Island not adopting them out for such a long period of time? Are you still planning on adopting one? That is just wonderful. It does a heart good!
I am not familiar with the particular situation you are talking about. But, if the dogs are from a dog fighting ring than they are probably pretty aggressive. The humane society needs to make sure that the animals are safe (for the dogs sake and ours) and also train them for domestic life, this takes time.
Sorry–I should have been more clear. I believe Dorie was speaking about adopting a puppy that was a few months old.
To the Kittenmaster: Do you let folks know when their photos will be posted? Or if they won’t? I love the babies. (Sigh) But wonder if mine will ever show up. Thanks.
Not at the moment. One day we’ll make this kind of notification automatic, but we don’t at the moment. And remember, I get hundreds of images every week, and there’s only room to display seven.
Thanks to all who have joined the TDK Breakfast Club group on Catster.
It’s open to all you guys, so come on down!
Thanks you for starting it, Catherine. We’re in!
lots of new FREEBIES…

Two six-packs of cute in a row?! Wow.. what a way to get ones mind off a ferocious tooth-ache.
*grabs an armful of purry cuteness for a quick snuzzle before heading off for work*
oh wait, there are only five cuties there. Gotta quit trying to count before the coffee kicks in. *grins*
Well, two boxes of cute in a row then. *sneaks back for another snuzzle*
Are you sure all the kitty sweetness isn’t bad for the teeth? 🙂 Hope you feel better soon.
nice story here…
**Buzzing Bases, Beeping Ball Helps Blind Play Baseball**
POSTED: 11:03 am PDT June 25, 2007
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The ball beeped, the bases buzzed and the fans didn’t cheer in this version of the national pastime.
Four teams of blind baseball players turned out Saturday for a round-robin tournament on Long Island.
“This reminds me of when I could see and played in Little League,” said Ted Fass, founder of the host Long Island Bombers.
The home team was joined by the Pennsylvania Wolfpack, the Chicago Comets and the Boston Renegades at Hofstra University — the first beeper ball tournament held in New York state, according to its organizers.
The crowd keeps quiet because applause and shouting would prevent the players from hearing the beeping baseball or running toward the buzzing bases. At the plate, the batter listens for the pitch and takes his cuts.
The bases are different, too. They’re soft pylons 100 feet from home plate at first and third. The hitter has the option of running to either one. If the batter reaches the base before a fielder can grab a hit ball, a run is scored. Otherwise, the batter is out.
The Bombers started play with an 8-6 victory over Chicago.
Fass, a 55-year-old Rockville Centre resident, lost his sight to a tumor that affected his optic nerve when he was 11. Nine years ago, he launched the Bombers, an 11-member team that competes against squads from around the country. All the players are blind or visually impaired.
My dad used to work on those beeping softballs. Wow, they’re really unusual.
JCL
That is really cool, Dee! Just because these folks are vision-impaired, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be able to enjoy competition.

**Pizza To Take Bigger Slice Out Of Budget**
Increased Demand For Ethanol Blamed
POSTED: 7:15 am PDT June 26, 2007
Expect pizza to take a bigger slice out of your budget.
In a strange side effect of the food chain, the increased demand for ethanol fuel appears to be driving up the cost of a pizza.
Family-owned pizzerias and the big national chains are getting hit with higher cheese prices.
Observers said the demand for ethanol has increased the cost of corn, a staple food for dairy cows. That drives up milk prices, which pushes up the cost of cheese.
There are other factors at play, including increased demand for dairy products. But the result is clear: block cheddar cheese is almost twice as expensive as it was a year ago.
In response, major pizza chains, such as Pizza Hut and Papa John’s have increased the price of their cheese-only pizzas. Smaller vendors are feeling the cheese pinch as well.
A Papa John’s spokesman complains the higher cheese prices are hurting companies already losing profits to higher wages and fuel costs.
At Fat Jimmy’s pizzeria in Louisville, Ky., Larry Lewis said they are having to pass some of the higher costs on to customers.
But prices won’t be flying as high as a hand-tossed pizza. The pizza makers note that while cheese is costing more, flour and tomato sauce have stayed stable.
**Golfer Survives Assault by 11-Foot Florida Gator**
Tuesday, June 26, 2007
VENICE, Fla. — A man who lost his ball in a golf course pond nearly lost an arm when an 11-foot alligator bit him and pulled him in.
Bruce Burger, 50, was playing the sixth hole, which has a “Beware of Alligator” sign posted nearby.
“Unfortunately, that’s part of Florida,” course general manager Rod Parry said. “There’s wildlife in these ponds.”
Burger managed to free himself Monday by beating the alligator with his other arm, said Gary Morse, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
“I saw him reach down to get his ball and he yelled … ‘Help. Help. I’ve been bitten by a gator,”‘ said Janet Pallo, who was playing a nearby hole and ran over to drive the man to the clubhouse.
Burger was taken to a hospital but was not seriously injured, Morse said Tuesday.
It took seven Fish and Wildlife officers an hour to trap the one-eyed alligator, Morse said.
This story reminds me of that Adam Sandler movie!!
JCL
USGA rules specify that in Louisiana and Florida you must yield to faster players — and hungry alligators!
Seriously, I’ve had interesting run-ins with wildlife along golf courses here in the Lake area, including one I’ll write about.
Now I hate to admit this in front of all you lovely ladies, and quite embarrassed to mention it in front of all you papa cat golfers out there in TDK land, but I absolutely stink at golf.
Years ago, I approached the tee box of the 7th at Pine Shadows. Now this is a par three where aggressive people (and those with NO sense) hit their tee shot over a pond, while the more careful types (otherwise known as “the smarter ones”,) lay up on the left side of the fairway, a short distance to the green. I was not counted among the latter. Anyway, I hit my shot and the ball exploded off the tee. It was not a pretty, Tiger-Woods-kind-of-shot hanging in the air, landing softly on the green leaving only a short putt for birdie. No. It was a missile that went straight into the mud on the edge of the swamp, having never gained more than three inches of altitude above ground!
Being the frugal guy that I am, (otherwise known as “cheap”,) I went to retrieve my ball. As I was about to reach down for it, much to my shock, was the largest cottonmouth or water moccasin snake I had ever seen and it was coiled up right next to my ball!
So I wished the viper well saying, “Have a ball”, and continued to finish the hole with a triple bogey!

Have you ever wondered what fortuitous circumstance surrounded the naming of the game of GOLF. Consider it’s reverse: FLOG!

I just voted my five for Redford, go Redford!
I just voted 5 more times for Redford. I wish that all the TDKers would support Rainingwolf and vote for the beautiful cat 5 times each day for the rest of this week and I believe that Redford would win. Please show your support and vote 5 times each day. Thanks.
Done my 5
I agree, Hadley. It’s such a simple thing, and only takes a few seconds each day to support Redford, a hard working veteran!
Just voted 5 times! Go Redford!!
Got in my daily 5 too
I tried voting again, but it wasn’t taking the counts for some reason. I’ll wait a little while and try again, hopefully with more luck.

Thanks, Dee! That’s a great article.
I’m self-taught when it comes to enjoying sushi, but I’ve always used my fingers while eating it. Heck, when dining at an Asian restaurant I don’t even bother with chopsticks, I just use a fork, spoon and knife. For me, it’s all about the flavor of the food I’m eating, not the utensils. It’s like wine — just drink what you like!
Also, staying with the subject, I read a couple of years ago that “sushi” is Japanese for “sticky rice”.
I guess I could always do my part and eat less tuna to protect their numbers in the ocean — and make more available for our feline friends out there — like Hailey, Brooke, Heather, Rose and Belle!
**Contest To Flush Out Premier Potty**
Online Voting Runs Through July 31
POSTED: 9:24 am CDT June 26, 2007
PROCTOR, Vt. — A restaurant in Flushing, Mich., may have the advantage of a fitting home town name in a contest for best restroom in America.
But to win the competition, sponsored by Cincinnati-based Cintas, it will have to beat out a marble bathroom in Vermont and a trendy Vegas lounge bathroom among others.
The restrooms at Fandangles, an upscale restaurant in Flushing, Mich., are also art galleries, with curtains billowing over the stalls.
But Fandangles is just one of five finalists in the sixth annual “America’s Best Restroom” contest, along with the marble restrooms at the Vermont Marble Museum, according to the Rutland Herald newspaper in Vermont.
The museum, in Proctor, Vt., is devoted to the local marble quarrying industry.
Marble restrooms aren’t all that uncommon. But Cintas, which supplies and maintains corporate restrooms, said it also was impressed with the museum bathroom’s “bright flowers and lace curtains to soften the smooth lines.”
Fairfield, Ohio, is offering up Jungle Jim’s International Market, where an entrance that looks like a portable toilet opens onto “a jungle-themed, modern restroom,” Cintas said.
The Mix Lounge at the Mandalay Bay casino in Las Vegas offers restrooms with “sleek black walls, breathtaking stall views, contemporary sinks.”
Then there are the nautical-themed restrooms of Catch 31, a restaurant in Virginia Beach, Va.
Voting at http://www.bestrestrooms.com continues through July 31, with the winner to be chosen in August.
**Tips to Beat Job Burnout**
by Shelly Field
Monster Contributing Writer
One of the best ways to defeat burnout is to make your job more enjoyable. “That’s impossible,” you say. Not necessarily. Sometimes you just have to change how you think.
No matter how boring or depressing your job may be at times, you have to find chances to laugh. Laughter breaks the tension of difficult situations. It helps cut the stress you feel and the tension you may be under. The more you laugh, the better you will deal with work, and the less burned out you’ll be. Many people aren’t aware that stress-related hormones are suppressed by laughter — so you know what you have to do.
Try to become more social. Talk to people. Find activities to do with coworkers, friends and family members. Feeling connected to others is a great way to reduce stress and burnout.
Many people in my seminars tell me that by the time they get done working for the day, they are often so exhausted that they just want to go home and be left alone. I understand and often feel the same way.
However, a number of studies indicate that adults who have the fewest friendships and are least active socially are most likely to die prematurely. If that’s not enough to make you want to get out and have fun, I don’t know what is.
Listen to conversations in your workplace. You might notice that a good percentage of discussions are negative. Work on training yourself to see the positive in situations — see the humor and knock out negative thoughts and conversation. Negativity just makes you feel worse.
Adding fun to your day will help decrease burnout. Here are several simple ideas you can incorporate into your workplace:
If you have a break room, consider filling it with toys and games. Coloring books will bring you back to your childhood. A puzzle will take your mind off things. Games are fun too.
If you don’t have a break room, get some little toys and games and keep them on your desk. You’ll be surprised how many people stop for a moment to play with your Silly Putty, shake a snow globe or put the magnetic beard on the man.
Consider putting up a bulletin board in a break room or employee lounge. Ask everyone from entry-level employees up to administrators and supervisors to bring in baby pictures. Post the pictures on the board. Everyone will enjoy looking at the photos and laughing at each other. It’s fun to guess who’s who. It also shows that no matter where anyone is in the hierarchy of the facility, everyone started out as someone’s baby.
Create a stress-free zone for when employees are feeling burned out. It doesn’t have to be a big space — even just a hallway outside a conference room. Consider putting in a hammock or a lounge chair and perhaps an inflatable palm tree and picture of the ocean.
Schedule activities you enjoy in your day and week. Buy one perfect flower, and keep it in your workspace to view. Take a walk outside during a break. Take a mini visualization vacation and go where you want to go, even if it’s only for five minutes.
Plan a visit to the zoo, the movies, the gym, a spa or a local cafe. Go window-shopping by yourself or with a friend. What’s important is having something to look forward to doing after work.
You can’t control everything, but you can control what you are able to and forget the rest. You can beat burnout before it beats you. You just have to try.
too late….
haha! I picture the “Debbie Downer” face from SNL!
TDK really helps with this problem. I have to have this break to get through my day. It seems that after I visit TDK I do feel revitalized and ready to go back to work.
Another thing you can do is quit the soul-withering job and find another that feeds your spirit.
Maybe less money, but you might just live a longer and happier life.
Believe me.
I am fascinated by the way torties have that split face color pattern. Sure am curious about the genetics of it all.
Lazy Man’s Ersatz Donuts
– makes about 12 donuts –
Ingredients
1/2 gallon peanut or vegetable oil for frying
1 10-pack cylinder canned biscuit dough
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
Procedure
1. Pour the oil into a cast-iron Dutch oven or other deep, heavy-bottomed pot, until it reaches a depth of at least 2 but not more than 3 inches. heat the oil over medium-high heat to 375°F. Extract the biscuits from the can and pat the circles of dough out to 1 1/2 times their original diameter, or about 1/4 inch thick.
2. Cut out donut holes using a bottle cap or a shot glass. Slip the rings into the oil, working in two batches. Do not crowd the pot. Cook for a minute or two per side, flipping the donuts with care to prevent splatter. When light golden brown on both sides, use a slotted spoon to remove the donuts from the pan to a wire rack and fry the holes. Using a metal slotted spoon or spatula keeps the holes moving, as they can become weighted and difficult to flip. Drain the holes on a wire rack.
3. Mix the cinnamon and sugar together in a large brown paper bag and drop the donuts in one at a time, shaking lightly to distribute evenly.
4. Add the holes all at once, shaking in the same fashion.
My mom used to do that all the time and made a glaze out of milk and powdered sugar
I have to try these.
My Mom also made these but she put jelly inside the dough sealed it and then fried them and put powdered sugar on Top!! YUMMY!!

**Arthritic Jaw Could Sideline Japanese Eating Champ For 4th Of July Hot Dog Competition**
POSTED: 10:39 am PDT June 26, 2007
TOKYO — The competitive eating world is already chewing on this bit of breaking news: The champ may not be able to chomp.
Takeru Kobayashi of Japan, the six-time champion of the annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, may be sidelined for next week’s event by an arthritic jaw.
Last year, the 165-pound Kobayashi won his sixth straight Yellow Mustard Belt at the Independence Day competition in Coney Island, N.Y., by devouring a then-world record 53-3/4 frankfurters in 12 minutes.
That mark was smashed earlier this month by Joey Chestnut of San Jose, Calif., who gobbled up 59-1/2 hot dogs and buns at the Southwest Regional Hot Dog Eating Championship at the Arizona Mills Mall in suburban Tempe, Ariz., — one of the qualifying events for Coney Island.
Chestnut nearly beat Kobayashi in 2006, downing 52 hot dogs and buns at the contest, which is sponsored by Nathan’s Famous Inc.
But Kobayashi, 29, may not be able to defend his title. Earlier this week, he said on his Web site that his “jaw has abandoned the frontline” during his training.
“Already I can’t open my jaws more than just a little bit,” he wrote. “There’s no pain only if I open my mouth about enough for one finger. More than that is painful and I can’t open it.”
A specialist diagnosed him with arthritis of the jaw, he wrote.
“To tell the truth, I’m desperate about healing completely before the July 4 contest,” he said, adding that he had begun receiving treatment at a hospital and from a chiropractor.
On Tuesday, his United Food Fighters Organization said on his Web site that Kobayashi has found a doctor he can trust and was “creating an environment in which he can dedicate himself to healing.”
“The contest is coming up soon, and we’d happy if everyone kept him in their thoughts,” the group wrote.
For everyone who loves Chicken-Fried Steak…
http://www.houstonpress.com/2007-06-21/news/i-love-cfs/
I get that paper every week and I was like…….ewwwwwwwwwwwww. That issue is sitting on my desk right now. lol
You don’t like chicken-fried steak? It’s only red meat you like, eh? How about fish?
Let me re-phrase that–it’s unadulterated red meat you like, right?
I don’t like the idea of ‘frying’ a steak – any steak. And I can’t abide anything with gravy on it. yuck! *makes faces*
No, I don’t eat fish, either.
I have added my babies to catster. Come visit
Adorable! Even before I read Gracie’s bio, I KNEW she ruled the house!
Just love your babies! Left treats for all of them!
Hi ppearson,
I just seen your family. The girls are so pretty and Thierry is so handsome. I left them all some treats.
Beautiful kitties. I, too, had to leave treats for them!
Thank you all who visited my herd on Catster. Gracie, Emma and Thierry all thank you
Congrats! You have a lovely family!
Oh! Beautiful kitties. My Tikka has sent them all friends invites!
Beatiful babies. I was interested in TH’s story. My Stinky was bottle fed, by me (do not know if she ever nursed) and she is very timid and shy with strangers and does not like company either. Wonder if that is a common demoninator in their personalities?
Great story and photos!

Very cool story
He will never be messed with by anyone while his ‘friends’ are around, that’s for sure 🙂
Not as stupendous as those pictures but I once had a 6mo old male lion cub fall asleep on my lap.
One of the traveling petting zoos came to the local county fair that year and they had this boy and a 3mo old female.
The female was held by the owners and the more agressive young boys were kept at bay but they were treating the poor boy quite roughly. You could tell he was intimidated by certainty that he would be punished if he retaliated and was miserably submitting to the attentions of the raspcallions. I sat down on the straw and began talking to the boys and calming their approach to the young prince. Teaching them to “Cat Pet not Dog Pet” him and explaining how he was still a tiny baby even though he was bigger than most full grown large dogs.
As time passed he crept closer to me and finally deposited as much of himself as he could in my lap. Then he looked into my eyes and gave that “Kitten’s dying gasp” of a sigh and collapsed into sleep.
The owners could not believe their eyes and said he never slept uptil put into his cage for the night. Mom told them that he knew I was more than 1/2 cat and that I would keep him safe.
She then took my 2 girls around the rest of the fair as I was obviously occupied for a while.
I have a lap of lion for about 4 hours until he woke for supper and his safe cage.
Cool! So glad that for that one day the lion cub knew the peace and love os sleeping in a warm lap and feeling safe. So glad for you that you had the experience of a lifetime.
Wow – that is so amazing! Truly an experience of a lifetime!
Beautiful story!
An amazing adventure and memory. I can see the scene with you giving that poor little prince 4 hours of bliss. I hope someday, as humans evolve, these traveling zoos will be stopped. People like you are rare and the poor animals live lives of quiet desperation 24/7.
Not so rare, look at the list of people posting on this site. And while you are at it look in a mirror.
I don’t see the problem being the concept of the traveling zoo. It is the execution. If one of the owner’s were hovering over the prince as both were hovering over the princess, my contribution would not have been required.
Not to minimize the abuse (and I do see the permitting unsupervised children to, however unintentionally, mal treat an animal as abuse), I could tell the lions were properly housed and nourished.
But you are right, as they stand they are no place for an animal especially non-domestic ones.
Still it was worth every needle and pin I suffered when the weight lifted.
Great!

“Wow!”
We are family FUZZ
Blessings on all cat rescuers !!! Inside may be boring for ferals, but the kittens get a chance at a home.

That was cool. There are a lot of “dream-busters” out there, mostly our own friends and families. Maybe I’ll take up writing. Nah, if I did I wouldn’t have time to check out TDK! Some things are just more important. 😉
Dee, thanks for sending this along. Right now I am trying to write a book about my two cats and getting over my husband’s death, and this was just the thing that I needed to keep going.

**Inmates cover hole with pancake batter**
SCOTT CITY, Mo. – Two southeastern Missouri inmates who used pancake batter to cover a hole they cut in a wall between jail cells will at least have a plate the next time they try such a culinary trick.
The Scott City Jail is adding steel plates to its interior walls after the industrious inmates made the hole and hid it with flapjack mix and toothpaste, police said.
Jail staff discovered the opening this weekend, police Chief Don Cobb said. He said inmates removed a block from the wall, allowing a female inmate to slide into the next cell, where a male inmate was housed.
The inmates fashioned a digging tool with a nail, a wire from a light fixture and a toothbrush, Cobb said. The mixture of pancake batter and toothpaste used to cover the gap looked like mortar, he said.
Prisoners were to stay in a county jail until a security check is completed at the city building.
The city jail’s exterior walls are already reinforced with steel to prevent inmates from escaping, Cobb said.
“Unless they can smuggle in an arc welder, they aren’t getting through that,” he said.

A friend of mine just sent me this. It is very cute! I love this box of furry buddies! All are so cute.
PET RULES: To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door at nose
height.
Dear Dogs and Cats,
The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food.
The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw
print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it
becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the
slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating
me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn’t help because I
fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king-sized bed. I am very sorry
about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your
comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep.
It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to
the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out
and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing
but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by
some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not
necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw
under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same
door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years –canine or
feline attendance is not required.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat’s butt.
I cannot stress this enough!
To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our
front door:
To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:
1. They live here. You don’t.
2. If you don’t want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
That’s why they call it ‘fur’niture.
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4.To you, it’s an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted
son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn’t speak
clearly.
Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
1. Eat less
2. Don’t ask for money all the time
3 Are easier to train
4. Normally come when called
5. Never ask to drive the car
6. Don’t hang out with drug-using friends
7. Don’t smoke or drink
8. Don’t have to buy the latest fashions
9. Don’t want to wear your clothes
10. Don’t need a gazillion dollars for college, and
11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.
OMG! Karin, that was too funny! I was just going to post something today but that last line caught my eye…
11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.
I am sending this to all my friends at work. Maybe they will understand me a bit better.
This group is very cute. I think I’d like to have Brooke (kitty in the back on the left) for myself! Glad no one has catnapped her yet!
JCL
Funny stuff, Karin!
They are all cute but love the black tortise shell. Has markings like my Tecumseh. Wonder if the kitten is as fiesty as my Tecumseh. Wish Tecumseh was her age again so I could have her for another 15 years and still counting.

Wow! You guys are GREAT! Redford is only behind by about 25 or so votes! He is hurting a bit today-darn ol’ arthritis-but he blinked and purred when I told him he was doing so well! Thanks to all of you!
–That’s great Rainingwolf–
I put my 5 votes in every morning 😀
No one seems to want Brooke – but look at that adorable little face! I’m going to have to step in and make up for this! (No choice, you know!)
I want her… I want them all… But I’ll share them! 🙂
I spoke up earlier for little Brooke==what a cutie! But I’ll share her with you Momof3cats.
I love Brooke and Belle they are beautiful, but to tell u the truth they all are so adorable I cant choose one!!!
Another box of kittens!! How much better can life get? They are so cute, especially like the second from the right Brooke I think.. What a pretty little face she has. I guess I’m waaay to late to steal one, but since most everyone has already had their turn *** Cleaver quitely lifts up Brooke and sneaks her out while everyones sleeping, tip toe tip toe****
Hi KM
Hi Alex
Hi fellow TDKers
As the norm this week having been on midnight shift, I’m very late getting here. I’ll be working a double tonight, so I’ll be here tomorrow for breakfast when you all get here and of course I’ll be starving. I can wait though, I’m a very patient person as Brooke here can tell you. I hope you all had great day and I’ll be catching up on all the gossip in a little bit. First I have to do some of that pesky work stuff they expect me to do when I get here. Take care and see ya later.
Cleaver
Oops! That should have been second from the left.

Hi everyone long time no speak. I have been very busy with my summer job and I am trying to read up the weeks I’ve missed but I haven’t missed a signal pic.
Hey has anyone Heard whether or not Sox’s mom got hired from anyone of her 3 interviews. Or if Sox’s mom reads this how’d the interviews go?
Okay, now that I have caught up om the news let me say a few things.
1st-I’m very disappointed, I couldn’t join the TDK breakfast club because I don’t have a profile on Catster. 🙁 It’s not like I don’t want to, just still haven’t found the right kitty yet, but I’m still trying.
LeeAnne- I’m so happy to hear that Kittyman is doing so well, I wish him continued improvement which no doubt he’ll have with your great care.
HM- Sorry that you had sad news yesterday, I hope that you are feeling better and that everything turns out okay.
Annecetera- YYEEAAHHH!! What great news you had for us all here today. Great work on all that you did, I’m sure they will all be happy kitties when everything is said and done. Thanks for the pics too, they were cute.
Kittypaw- The same goes for you! Great work on getting two more of the kittens, only three more to go! I know you will get them all and hopefully the mama too. Good news for Twisty as well, I hope it all works out as planned and they all end up in furever homes.
ppearson- Beautiful fuzzybutts you have. I left them all treats. Soon I will get mine and then I to can put it on Catster and join the Breakfast Club.
I think that just about covers everything that I can remember. Take care and many head bonks going out to everyone. It’s been a great few days of kitty news and rescues!
Cleaver
Alrighty, I was finally able to do my daily Redford votes. Don’t know what the problem was earlier, but it was just fine this time around. Good luck Redford!!

Hi Elaine,
I tried to go look at your page, but it says it can’t find it. Any ideas?
Cleaver
I would like to thank all the TDKer’s for the warm welcomes and advices. Wish I could post more at this site but you can be sure I will lurk daily. You guys are truly the nicest & warmest bunch of people!
Yeah, to a fellow lurker! Glad to hear I’m no the only one!
Thanks! And remember you can join our breakfasts & other activities any time you want!
awwwwwwwww what a bunch of cute girls 🙂 they are all so sweet looking.
What a bunch of beauties!!! We have three siamese babies, so, needless to say, we are partial to that breed….but, these little “bunnies” are gorgeous. Best of luck in finding them the perfect homes!
A bunch of darling little ‘pocket-wahs!’ May God bless you and these sweeties always. 🙂
