Melissa, do you have a chapter of Alley Cat Allies in your area? They helped me to TNR a large colony in my neighborhood 2 years ago and occassionally check back in with me to see if any new cats have showed up.
https://www.alleycat.org/ is the national (US) website for them.
Apparently it is a thing to take your cat out on “adventures”! There is at least a book and a website about taking your cat hiking and stuff like that. http://www.adventurecats.org/ is the web site with tales of cats out and about. I would be way too nervous about the dangers taking a cat hiking. (or just losing them)
PG has some good questions for you to consider. I wanted to add that all of my cats have hated car trips but I have known cats that were fine. I know one cat that as a kitten loved car rides and spent most of his first year going everywhere with his people, mostly short trips – Pet store, visiting etc, probably no more than an hour or so in the…[Read more]
This is pretty common with the SPCA and county shelters in my area even. In some cases they allow a trial and some insist on it. My area county shelter does a 90 day trial and they check in with you a couple of times to see how things are going. Some of the area rescue groups prefer this when there are other animals or children in the home.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone on this fine day! Wearing my green and as expected the Craic is mighty here in the TDK Cafe. Hey Buttons – normally I’d ask for a Bulmers from the bar but as we are still well below freezing here maybe I can get some Irish whiskey in some Hot Cocoa instead.

Thanks for the Recall info JJ – I feed the 9Lives to my outdoor crew.
CWS – I had a cat with a tail like that, I swear the tail surprised him at times! He would get mad when it knocked into things which caused him to lash it about – and knock into things. (He wasn’t the brightest thing – but very loving)

That sounds really cool Buttons! I entered the lottery to be able to see the solstice at NewGrange when I visited it a few years back – didn’t win of course. A less crowded version at your own local circle sounds really neat.
– I have a print of this painting, got it when I was living with several black kitties.
Yep, no heat on the coldest day of the season so far – it was 17 degrees F outside. Luckily with a townhouse my neighbors helped hold my heat in and with the assistance of a space heater or the oven I could keep at least one room at a time comfortable.
Well Good Evening to all and I hope everyone had a good weekend! I didn’t even know about Bake Cookies Day but I celebrated it anyway. I baked to keep my house warm while my heat was out last week and ended up with too many muffins. So I decided to turn them into gift baskets but needed to add a little something to the baskets, so cookies it was.…[Read more]
Thanks Buttons! I do love the southern part of Ireland! I have twice toured the South west coast starting at Dublin and over to Dingle, through Cork and Kerry. I was lucky enough to make it out to Skellig Michael on my first tour and to the Aran Islands on another trip.
Thanks PG, I don’t think I am a member of the group on Facebook, I will look into that though. Also there is definitely no rush. The tour company isn’t going to start planning 2018 until April 2017. 😀 Once I have a goal though I want to get things organized. And of course I am already excited and looking forward to this and nothing is…[Read more]
Hello Buttons or any other Irish TDKers! I am planning a trip to Ireland – way in advance we are planning for 2018. This trip will be focused on Northern Ireland – Belfast, the Sligo coast, Giants Causeway, Derry and Donegal areas. So my question is, what is the best time for good weather outside of summer? We don’t want the crowds of June,…[Read more]
THis is late and I don’t know if you will be able to see the video (it was posted to a Facebook group I belong to or not.) But it is Luka Bloom’s The Ride (a song about bike riding) set to a video of a bike ride on Inis Mor in Ireland.
KJ – this has become my go to warm up song for DIY Spin.
If you are in the USA Alley Cat Allies is a non-profit that has chapters in many parts of the country that can assist with TNR. They recently helped me trap 8 cats at my house in one day. Then they took them all in to a local clinic for spay/neuter and basic checkup and shots. All the cats have been released back to the neighborhood but this…[Read more]

Hello everyone, since I posted about the TNR of the ferals I figured I would post a followup. They were all checked out and given basic shots as well as Spay/Neuter and returned to the neighborhood last night! So it was into the vet in the morning and back “home” the same day. There is at least one more that we would like to trap as we think…[Read more]

Was thinking of JJ and you the rest of the TDK crowd this weekend as I worked with an Alley Cat Allies to trap some of the feral colony that has been growing in my neighborhood. I think it started when people moved and left cats behind to fend for themselves. 😡 I started feeding one of them that showed up on my patio pregnant over a year…[Read more]

It’s the leaves on the ground, Lois – if you look close they are actually pictures of his face/head.
