Our bathroom is much too small for a stepladder! One dining chair is all we can fit in there when light bulbs need changing.
Nowadays he closes the door first.

Angels . . . well, sometimes just slightly fallen ones! But they rarely mean to be wicked. They are just eternally, insatiably curious about everything in their world, and now and again trying to find out the details can result in something falling over.
Just like when human Dad is changing a light bulb, standing on a chair in the bathroom . . .…[Read more]

Hmmm . . . still not exactly speedy, but that one did post in less than two minutes. Which is better. Thank you!

I’ve been having the same s – l – o – w issues as others – it takes so long to post a comment that I tend to go elsewhere while the typist is finding the keys!
But with the comments above I shall try again – and see if anything has speeded up now.
Well, he’s been working on repainting the hall, and replacing the floor . . . and that’s almost finished now! I won’t say that’s great fun, but he’s made a good job of it. Instead of a rather tired 60-year-old floor we now have a nice new, shiny one, which even makes the house warmer.
That has to be a plus point!
Oh dear – that would be giving my age away, wouldn’t it? But then, having grandkittens in their twenties is a bit of a giveaway, too . . .
So, as long as you promise not to tell anyone else, PG – I’ll whisper in your ear that next year will be our fiftieth . . .
SSSSHHHHH!!!!! Not a word, remember, not to a soul!
We had an anniversary too – on the 17th! But we don’t do anything about it now – he doesn’t remember dates anyway. Maybe next year, when we hit a biggie.
Cats and cameras aren’t always great pals, in my experience – a lot of ’em run a mile as soon as they see one coming! Rincewind was different though – he used to pose for the camera. He’d even…[Read more]

It must be Black Cat Day here . . . our little visitor spend most of yesterday here, not leaving until nearly 8 am, and she’s been back since lunchtime!
They were both very good yesterday, though. I was hard at work all day, editing and publishing – I wanted to get the proof version of Mum’s book out on her birthday. I didn’t think I’d manage…[Read more]
Hmmm . . . I don’t have photos of them all, but I’ll see what I can do!
It isn’t always easy to get them though – some will run if they hear a click, whether it’s the door or the camera. I can possibly include a couple of others from our past, though.
We weren’t at the original, obviously, but we did go to see the film about a year later. I loved The Who’s set – always a favourite of mine (sigh . . . !) – but my daughter wriggled and jiggled and danced all the way through Hendrix’s session.
Which was a little uncomfortable for me – because she wasn’t born until a month later.
That depends on whose shoes / shoe box they want, PG. My shoes tend to live in their boxes, because although I have a number of pairs, there are only one or two that I usually wear out of doors.
My OH, on the other foot, buys lots of pairs of shoes, which get left wherever he took them off – and for a while, the empty box will still be available,…[Read more]
They would never have met if the war hadn’t happened, MS. Dad was a Yorkshireman, while Mum was from Sussex – in those days that was a very long distance between them!
To expand the story a little . . . Mum, on her first day afloat, was reading the onboard rules and regulations with a friend, when this unknown man came up and said to her “I bet…[Read more]
When they grow out of the actual shoes, the shoe boxes will usually come into play! It’s amazing how the biggest and leggiest of cats can arrange himself into the smallest of boxes.
After all that effort, they deserve a bit of relaxation.
My parents both spent most of WW2 in the Far East – for them it didn’t finish until December 1946, when the troop ship collected some of the remaining forces from Burma and Singapore to bring them home.
That was where they first met, on board the ship . . . and nine weeks later they were married! So the end of the war was the start of a whole new…[Read more]
A long, long, long, long time ago, when I was young, two friends and I walked around a local village barefoot, while visiting another friend. We had all sorts of stares and whispers from passers-by . . . and I will admit now that my feet hurt by the end of the day! But I didn’t feel cold on that occasion.
But as I mentioned, I was then a little…[Read more]
My daughter tends to go barefoot around the house, but then she has carpets and heating. My house is older and colder – and I find it hard to sleep without socks on.
In the height of summer I might leave them off – but that’s only a couple of days anyway! So the socks are in place most of the time.
I very often wear different colours on each foot – it stops them getting bored, dressing them differently – but on that occasion I happened to have a matching pair!
Merlin doesn’t mind what colour is cuddling him.
